I could not miss this one, one of the few rulers of the area and period who put the legend of his coins in German.
It took me a while to find out that VGG meant Von Gottes Gnaden, which is Dei Gratia, or By the Grace of God. 1623Brandenburg

The post seems stuck. So I put a coin that is almost the same as previous 1618. Also Hungarian Denar under Matthias for 1616:
I also have some undated coins for the period.

Hello,
I have put a creation request a month ago for a similar coin dated 1597. But the date is 2 digits, just 97. (not validated yet, Roy seems quite busy).
Do you know if it is the same ?
Krause stops km#15 to 1605. Mine is HMZ#2-754. It is the only reference I have and I found on rhino coins dates from 1550 to 1599. Don't know if they are complete.
André
Edit. Yes, different coins. 17th century is HMZ 2-769

Over at CCF, the 4th edition of "How far back can we go" is also progressing backwards, one day per year, with no stalls so far. It should continue going backwards with no pauses until it hits 1497, maybe earlier.
The 3rd edition did not pause too much until it hit 1491. The CCF threads were hung up for years waiting for 1491, until an islamic AH-dated coin was posted. Now, the 3rd edition has pushed backward a few years, but has been waiting for 1486 for a few months.
There is a similar thread over at Coin Talk, which should also progress back through 1498 (at least), with no pauses.
Quote: "phfoticus"I have 1609, 1608, and 1607 (along with all years back to 1498).
The question is: should this thread be reactivated, or allowed to die, or maybe even locked?
The other thread is having a hard time progressing now, in the 1640s.
Well I'm new here, but since you already posted a reply here I'd say you just re-activated it, so go for it!
I got nothing to add till y'all get all the way to the Roman era, so hurry up and get another 1100 years :) My oldest modern coin is a 1686 Spanish Cob from Peru (and I'm fairly certain it's a fake, since I did buy it in Peru, not the most reputable of places), so I definitely missed being able to add to the thread. But I have enjoyed reading through it and would like to see more
