So ... I recently found this place on googlemap and the reverse image search will tell you that it is a lake.
Even if there are not many people living in the area, the locals say it is fishy but it's a bit far to go and check and anyway it's not what makes it famous.
Would (if there are any) the fishes not be having a most excellent time in this lake? (i.e pollution of some sort?)
actually, I'll shoot a guess.
either lake karachay
or the famed "Atomic Lake" from project Taiga.
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Is this lake in Europe?

Fishes are excellent, and you hit right firs time the nail on the head :8D
It's the atomic lake next to Vassioukovo !

I think I may have one-upped you there Cass!
(To be fair I may have a slight fascination with nuclear-themed things)

So,
To begin anew.

I am a bronze statue, about man-sized, brought to light thanks to the second world war.
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Not to worry, I'm not very good with natural (in this case, relatively natural) landmarks. IMO it's see one lake, seen them all. (8

Anyway, when you say "brought to light" do you mean rediscovered during WWII or built to commemorate WWII?

Also, is it anything mentioned in this article:
http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/how-german-investigators-found-lost-nazi-art-beloved-by-hitler-a-1035230.html
Rediscovered, because of world war 2, and not in the article
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Is the statue of a human?

Was the statue originally from a Greco-Roman civilisation in the period of antiquity?
Quote: "CassTaylor"Is the statue of a human?

Was the statue originally from a Greco-Roman civilisation in the period of antiquity?
No, not human.
Technically not greco-roman. but in the ballpark.
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Is it the Capitoline Wolf?

If not, does it date from after the Greco-Roman period?

And is it a statue of a mammal?
No, No and No.
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
An egyptian god(dess)?
Referee of south atlantic islands
No
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Is it a statue of a bird?

Was it rediscovered in Europe, and if so, was it in Italy?
It is not a bird,
It is not technically a mammal,
and yes, Italy.
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
A mermaid, a centaur ?
Referee of south atlantic islands
Neither, but getting warm.
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Quote: "loruca"and yes, Italy.
I had a hunch it would be Italian. :P

So it's a mythological creature, then?

Is the statue of any of those or not: Hippocampus, Harpy, Chimera, Griffin, Minotaur, Gorgon, Satyr (I still know my Greek myths!)
Yes!
It is one of those!
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Okay, now which one is the question.

Is it one of those with hooves?
Usually not
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Just to be clear, I meant; is the statue of any one of those seven mythological animals with hooves? (Minotaur, Hippocampus, Satyr and Chimera)

If the answer is no, then is it of a Gorgon?
Quote: "CassTaylor"Just to be clear, I meant; is the statue of any one of those seven mythological animals with hooves? (Minotaur, Hippocampus, Satyr and Chimera)

If the answer is no, then is it of a Gorgon?
I'll save you some guessing, it is a Chimera, however I do not believe it to be represented with hooves.
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
A bronze statue of a Chimera from before Greco-Roman (does Etruscan count?) rediscovered in WWII?

There's only the Chimera of Arezzo, but it was found centuries before WWII....
Yes, the Arezzo one will be close enough, the specific one I had imagined was one found in Trestina, a few dozen kilometres away, along with a large Etruscan bronze "brazier-tripod" of sorts (a reproduction is on the Main Street of that city), but the more I search the internet for it, the more I realize it isn't as easy to find, nor as much common knowledge as I thought it was. (it is much less well-preserved than the Arezzo piece)
So Cass, you take it again!
Here's a link to the specific tripod I mentioned.

Don't worry, sometimes I also wonder if the ones I choose are too obscure as well. Ball in my court again!

Okay, first clue; this monument was built in the style of Greco-Roman architecture, but was built long after the fall of Greco-Roman civilisation.

Neither, but it is not in the United States.
Oh guy! there is a bunch of Neoclassical architecture buildings in Europe !

Quote: "Frenchlover"Oh guy! there is a bunch of Neoclassical architecture buildings in Europe !
:O

Okay, I guess I should provide some more hints to narrow it down.

This is not a residential building, so not a mansion or palace.

This is styled after a Greco-Roman temple; specifically a peripteros, so it looks something like the Parthenon in Athens.
Reichstag?
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
No, not a government building either.

It's more like a museum.

A little bit cryptic.... is it in Europe?
Yes, it's an european country.
And any coin collector is a specialist of "countries", even the strangest and smallest ones ...

Is it one of those unrecognised microstates?

If yes, is it Liberland?
Or is it

xD funny things those unrecognized micro nations xD
Yes it's a micronation, and read my previous answer is a good tip to find it :8D

Ok, my turn again; for a bit of a change, this monument is not in Europe. It was born from an attempt at colonisation by a European country; and it became famous after it was involved in an incident of anti-Semitism.
Was this place colonized by the:
French?
British?
Spanish?
Italians?
Germans?
Portuguese?
Following which:
Is this monument located in
Asia?
Americas?
Africa?
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
This monument is located in the Americas.

I can't answer the first question though, as it would make it too obvious... so instead here's a hint; it was colonised by the only country to ever try adopting metric time.
Is this a military related monument?
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Not really, no. It was pretty violent and awful over there though.
Is this situated in the Caribbean basin?
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Close to it, but not quite on the Caribbean basin.
Little up, because it seems loruca is a little busy lately. ;)

Anyone else who fancies having a go is also welcome!
Loruca is just as busy as exams are , but was missing some more emails in his inbox, sooooo
Is it in "Acadie" (ex- French North America)?

It is a French colony in the Americas, but no, not Acadie.
Is it then in "Louisiane"
I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
No, not in Louisiana either.

(Sorry I forgot to reply earlier!)
Is it in French Guiana?
Quote: "phamanhtuan1000"Is it in French Guiana?

But yeah, it is in French Guiana!
Does it have anything to do with the Dreyfus affair?
If so, is it related to Devil's Island in French Guiana?
And if it is, is it the Dreyfus Tower?
P/S; Just discover this forum while I'm bored.
Bingo! B)
Yeah!!!!!!!!!! :wiz: :wiz::wiz:

OK. Here are the clues:
1. It is completed on Halloween.
2. It used to bear the name of a king.
3. Address contains 3 numbers.
4. The street it's on is named after a revolution.

Well done mate! You got it right!
Woohoo!!! You made me think hard....

Well, my turn, I think is not too easy, so will give some hints:

- Is placed on the biggest country of the region.
- Is a copy of a building in other country, even name was copied, but translated to local language.
- In it has the 2nd biggest indoor statue of the world.
- In floor is placed a copy of a big jewel that marks KM 0 of the country.

Good luck to all.
