We have a successful How far back can we go? thread, but the rules (one year per post) are a bit quick for some people and I know we are missing out on a lot of great coins. So here is my Slow Thread with rules that will help everyone participate at a more reasonable pace, while the guys who are eager to show off their really old coins can use the old thread.
We will start at the current year (2014) and, posting progressively older coins, test the limits of Numista's collective collection.
- Today (January 20) is a day where we post our coins from 2014.
- The next day (January 21) we go back one year to 2013. For all day on January 21, all members can post a coin from 2013. This means we will see many coins from 2013 instead of just one.
- We will keep this format (a new day, a new year) going for as long as we are able to. If no coin is posted on one day, the year does NOT advance as we are trying to get one of every date.
- The same member cannot post more than one coin consecutively. However, if there have been three posts since that member's last post, that member is allowed to post another coin of the same year.
- This will be important once we get really far back: Dateless two-year, three-year, four-year types are right out - either the date is printed on the coin (other eras are fine, but you must be able to convert them) or the coin can be attributed to only one year despite having no date.
- The new day is determined by me, because this is completely arbitrary and I started the thread in the first place. Midnight, MDT (GMT -7:00) is the time when the new day starts. Let me know if you'd like a different time-zone.
Let's start with the updated pictures of the Latvian 2-euro coin, 2014:
You misunderstand me, I'm happy with the terms of this thread, I just don't have much that's post 1950, once we get there I'll happily participate every day.
In 2012 a new composition of $1 and $2 coin was introduced, made of plated steel instead of plated nickel. The new coins also had new security features, with a micro-engraved maple leaf and a lateral image on the $2 coin. Only a very small number of coins were made in 2012 without these new security features - and to make things worse, a truck carrying about $3,000,000 in these "old-style" coins to distribution centers in Eastern Canada crashed and those coins were all recalled and remelted!
So, these elusive (it's estimated that under 2,000,000 of these coins survive) $1 coins are the hardest circulation strike Canadian $1 coin to find, and as old-composition $1 are reclaimed and melted down they will get rarer and rarer. The $1 was most likely only distributed in Western Canada and I was lucky enough to find one in the wild

United Kingdom 20 Pence KM# 990 Both same date, but on left is an error coin
Die rotation; the inner seven angles are not in line with the outer seven angles.
I was not sure if Tokens were allowed, otherwise I would have added this instead. Also an error item - apparently some of the obverse images are showing through (in reverse) on the other side. I could make out an angle of something in the top part of the water but that was all. The middle is made of silver.
