This year we're starting a few weeks earlier - hoping that all letters will arrive by the end of the year. So it's time for the 2025 Numista holiday gift exchange!
An exchange would be a good opportunity to celebrate our hobby and make somebody else a cheer. Send coin(s)/banknote(s) (well, I'm sure no one will be upset if you send more than one), as well as a postcard from your city or something else to share some local flavor with our fellow collectors.
There will be three options to send and receive:
1) general coin of any sort, with a value of "a few" (i.e., 2-5) dollars, Euro, etc.
2) silver coin, with a value of 5 to 10 dollars/Euro/etc.
3) banknote, with a value of "a few" (i.e., 2-5) dollars, Euro, etc.
Please register in this thread by November 15th at the latest and tell to which option(s) you add yourself. The list of all the people participating will be shuffled and then each person will send coin(s)/banknote(s) to the next person on the list (receiving coin(s)/banknote(s) from the previous person). I will randomize the list on November 16th and post the resulting order (so the letters should be sent by November 23rd at the latest). I feel that the international friendship aspect of this exchange is important, so I will attempt to keep as many coins/banknotes as possible travelling to other countries around the world.
NOTE: If you live in a country that has restrictions (that are enforced) on sending and receiving coins/banknotes only from certain countries, please let me know! Once the list is posted, please contact the person to whom you are sending in order to get his/her address. If his/her collection is open for public viewing, you should try to pick a coin that they don't have. Otherwise, take a look at their collecting interests for inspiration.
After observing the last couple gift exchanges I’m throwing my hat in and count me for all 1,2 & 3 please!
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
Happy to participate (again)! Mark me down for all 3 sections … but …
Only I request Mr._Investor to be removed from the list of secret Santa's (or at least kept out of Europe), as smvdbrink is still waiting for his silver coin and I'm as yet still awaiting the arrival of the 2 letters he supposedly sent me on December 7th 2024 …

I would love to take part, but since I only started collecting again a couple of months ago, I don't really have any stock sitting around home. Maybe next year, but it's great to see this still happens
I did not ship you 2 letters only 1 which you received.
Apparently … but that's not what you claimed in December. Please reread your own messages about mixing up options and sending wrong coins, sending extra new letters, asking the wrong coins to be returned to you once arrived … a whole lot of B$ if you now admit to sending out my X'mas letter only on February 5th! And last time I checked @smvdbrink is still waiting 😢
I love participating in this merry tradition and play secret Santa, but I'd like to avoid people who exploit the goodwill of everyone participating. Plus this year I'd love to get a Santa from New Zealand 😜(https://en.numista.com/forum/topic152080-2.html#p1227086).
Just call me Bram
No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

I would have liked to participate but the problem is that shipping costs are just. so. outrageous. Shipping one coin to Portugal costs ten euro!!
For me sending within Europe as letter works fine … 1 (or a few coins) stuck between cardboard and kept under 50g … some stamps and dropped in a mailbox … works in 98% of cases ;-)

It worked for me the only time i did it.. but i am so scared. What they could do is destroy the package.. yikes.
Just one or two coins, in a flat letter, … no one cares/notices, they just get delivered (most of the time). The good thing about the holiday gift exchange, it's just one item, so easily concealable … and if it does get lost, it's just a pity, no more. Just go for it 😀

According to your profile and on as you live less than 30minutes from the German border so maybe you post from a post office in one of the border towns if it’s cheaper?

I’ve done swaps and sold on eBay small coin lots where I’ve posted like 1-5 coins in a small envelope wrapped in old newspaper or clingfilm then padded between Cardboard normally the type used in strengthen envelopes or similar to the cardboard used on frozen pizzas.
For banknotes its just tucked into a banknote sleeve and placed in between cardboard and that’s it.

I am not the “chief referee” of this forum (and do not wish to be), but as a “quasi-organizer” of our wonderful holiday gift exchange-event I am forced to deal with this issue and make a decision. I've reread the threads from last year and this year in their entirety and reflected on the situation:
Mr._Investor (USA) claimed twice (on December 7th and 9th) to have sent his letters to BramVB (BEL) [= general coin(s) partner] and smvdbrink (NLD) [= silver coin(s) partner].
As of January 31st, no letter had arrived.
BramVB showed the letter he received on February 14th, postmarked February 5th.
smvdbrink confirmed in this thread above that he hasn't received a letter to this day.
This is a problem. We need to be able to rely on mutual trust. Therefore, I've decided that Mr._Investor's participation this year is only possible under the following restriction: participation in option 3 [= banknote(s)] without restrictions, participation in option 2 [= silver coin(s)] with the restriction that the letter must be sent to only one participant in the USA (according to his own preference last year), and only via registered mail.
I hope my reasoning and my decision are understandable. In soccer, this is called a “yellow card”. It's an opportunity to prove himself and regain trust.
Mr._Investor is free to decide whether he wants to participate under these conditions or not this year.
@Leitwolf Thanks for organizing the exchange again AND thanks for taking a decision on the case. I hope redemption can come and all will be happy with stuffed stocking by December 24th. Hope there is no Grinch among us …
As stated before, you can count me in on all 3 section …

I've just drawn the names, here are the final lists. Please contact the person to whom you are sending in order to get their mailing address. To the proposal that you could only send to the US this year.

As this is my first time participating in the holiday gift exchange everything has gone well. I‘ve had communication with everyone apart from @Moneytane whom I’m sending a general coin to and @miragex that I’m receiving a silver coin from, but I’m a patient person so I can wait.
Otherwise@Leitwolf & @Giobruno have been prompt with preparing the items I’ll receive as well as @gros & @AC7588 with providing their addresses for shipment in which I’ll hold for a couple days until Moneytane responds then I’ll send all together.

All of mine are now ready to post tomorrow due to the Cloudfair issue, where I could not see Moneytane's message until recently.

Ok, keep your tone at a humbler level. You dont have to be fiercy on me.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
Darn, I missed the deadline this year. Next year I will have to remember to check the forum earlier! I look forward to seeing the pictures of the treasures posted online!
I'd love to participate, but considering only one of my three gifts arrived last year, I think I should pass this time.
Also, since August 23 the Swedish postal service has paused shippings to the US due to the new US customs regulations. On the app you are no longer able by postage to the USA, which makes this even more difficult. 😔
Oh no.. I was looking forward to this but missed it due to a couple busy weeks at work.. anyone else that wanted to participate but missed out? I wanted to participate in Option 3 (banknote). Guess will have to wait for the next year then.
Posted them earlier today so they should arrive before Christmas hopefully.

You are all welcome to join us again next year. This year we started a little earlier so we wouldn't get caught up in the Christmas rush as in previous years.
Unfortunately, only a few collectors from outside Europe are participating this year. I hope that changes again next year.
I got my presents out to Bram in Belgie and Leitwolf in Deutschland on Monday last.
Hopefully they will get there before Christmas, there has been an improvement in our post office this year. I have had mail from the UK now take only 12 or 13 days, so there is hope!
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Santa made a pre December delivery from @Leitwolf!
I’m happy that it arrived so early I haven’t even got my tree up yet!

Thats good just waiting for Santa to deliver to my recipients further afield.

I just got a package from Harris79. He did absolutely nothing wrong, but someone at the post in either England or the Netherlands ripped open the letter and stole the coins!!
Unbelievable. All coins GONE. I am so infuriated.
Thanks for the beautiful card. At least that is left.
Stupid note from the Dutch post that ‘something did not go well’ and they ‘apologize for that’. IDIOTS!!! Not even possible to get reimbursement!!!
