I have a question about the dating system of the later coins of Mustafa III (for example this one: N#89496).
His earlier coins are using the standard Ottoman dating: ascension year (in AH) + regnal year. This is used from AH1171//5 to 1171//9.
Then the later coins are suddenly dated from 1171//80 to 1171/87.
I'm not sure about this, but the Krause cataloge gave me a hint:
Am I understand it correctly that this dating is using the last 2 digits of the current year (in AH) but also showing the ascension year (in AH) for some reason? These dates are 1766-1773 in Gregorian, which coincides the later years of Mustafa III.
It looks like that his successor went back to the usual ascension year + regnal year combo, so this pattern didn't last long.
Also how should we show this in Numista? The current dates on the 5 para page that I've linked are obviously broken, because they're showing the ascension date for every date line but I'd like to ask some second opinion on this matter before I start opening modification requests.
