i'm hiding it from her to bug her as a big brother naturally should
and i guess it fits in with the animal theme

I like to think of this as a poor man's version of any coin that features St. George slaying the dragon. Minus the dragon, of course.

Yeah - I guess we are rather lucky here for getting Gibraltar, I.O.M., and Guernsey coins, and to the lesser extent St. Helena, the pound was in a bank roll I had to cash in - it's XF-aUNC too.
Actually my brother brought me a similar grade 2p coin the other day with a cyclist on; it was a sports on the Isle of Man one, never seen any before same as the I.O.M. Xmas 50p I got.
I don't suppose it's the same for you lot over there so much - maybe the odd Canadian coin I would guess ?

Is it possible in the UK to ask a bank employee if he could change a One Pound coin into 100 pennies, or a Two Pounds coin into 2 p's at a bank?

Yes but only at a bank once upon a time at the post office you could do the same and also change your pennies for pounds but it must be at a bank now

That's awesome! If you want to exchange a 1 euro coin to 1 cent coins here in the Netherlands, you have to pay more than the nominal value of the coins you want to exchange. For example, a roll of 50 1 eurocent coins costs here 3.50 euros, instead of just 50 cents. It's awful!
Luckily, there some helpful shop-owners up here, who would like to get rid of those useless (the Netherlands ditched them just as Finland did) 1 and 2 eurocent coins. So I often go to them instead of the local bank.

Is that just because they are hard to find in the Netherlands, or does it apply to all coins?

Quote: manxcat12 Is that just because they are hard to find in the Netherlands, or does it apply to all coins?Well, mostly because the Royal Dutch Mint doesn't mint Dutch eurocoins in a great amount anymore. They do make the 5 eurocent coin in great numbers, but coins with a higher value (20 ct, 50 ct, 2 euro, etc.) not.
And as a result of that banks only sell those coinrolls (with 1 and 2 eurocent coins) with a higher amount of money than the nominal value. Because we don't particularly use the 1 and 2 cent anymore, those coins became more worth than the nominal value. (Dutch banks only have 1 & 2 cents rolls with uncirculated coins which came from annual coinroll sets, which the RDM releases every year, the do sometimes have mixrolls, but that isn't very common).

Quote: Mark240590 So when I go to Portugal in the summer I should be watching out for Dutch 1 & 2 cents ?You could, but 1 cent coins from 1999 - 2004 (except 2002) and 2 cent coins from 1999 - 2004 aren't rare. So everything from 2005 and beyond is scarce.
