My classmates and I decided to set on a mission to collect 100,000 HUF (€263 or $282) worth of 5 HUF coins - that's 20,000 pieces - by the end of June. We're planning to achieve this by collecting monthly membership fees of 1500 HUF (€4 or $4.25) per member, and we now have 7 members, so that would make us very close to hitting our goal by June. Any time we've got money, we go to a post office, and buy as many coin rolls as we can/as many as they have.
It has been 4 weeks since we started collecting them, and we currently have 17,195 HUF (3583 coins, €45 or $49) worth of 5 Ft's, which has a volume of 2.02 liters and weighs a staggering 15.05 kg! Some of the rolls had finds, we so far have collected 16 x 2021 F-O-R-I-N-T coins, plus 4 x lower mintage 1996's. But some of the rolls were 2-3 coins short, and our record so far is 9 coins missing from 50 in a roll… (Hopefully we won't break it)
At one of the post offices we go to, the first few times there were no fee, but now that we go more often they charge 10%…
Do you also collect large amounts of the same coin? Or what are your thoughts on this? I'm curious.
This would be more helpful if you started what country you are in and what coin you are talking about.
But I will answer your question - in New Zealand, this type of thing is frowned upon and realistically pointless. Our most worthless coin is the 10 cents, a cheap stainless steel thing with copper plating. It has only been made from 2006 onwards and has almost no use - its starts a nice pink brown colour but quickly chanegs to a faecal brown colour.
Even if we did collect, our automatic change machines, limit us to 8 rolls per day and 8 rolls of 10 cent coins would be $40 giving you 400 coins that would weigh 1.2kg. Our biggest coin the $2 is in rolls of 25 and again you are limited to 8 rolls per day and that is assuming you even have that many in stock.
When I occasionally buy chnage to search for new coins or better examples, my bank Westpac makes it free, but reads my card and will not tell me what is available until I have done this. Often it will say (No $2 coins, 50c limited to one roll etc). If I try this gimmick on another banks ATM, I will be charged 5 or 10% fee and/or $5 cash handling fee. Banks with tellers serving you are a thing of the past.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I imagine that the copper in it is worth more than the $210 face value
Ah, there's a problem. From a large sample I determined that 33.6% were bronze and 66.4% were copper plated zinc. I had already removes the steel ones (notice the magnet in the picture). So .336 X 21,000 = 7,056 “copper” pennies. At US $0.0253 per coin scrap that's $178. Not bad, $100 profit. The first problem is separating the copper ones from the zinc ones. The second one is getting the scrap dealer to believe all 7,056 are copper.

Does your scrap dealer buy copper pennies at spot?
Don't know. Never tried. Like I said, if they knew anything about US pennies they'd be worried about contaminating their copper stream with zinc so would probably not.

From what I see from videos, many people keep them, since it is currently illegal to melt them, they are waiting for the withdrawal of the penny so they could melt them in. Generally, people don't really buy them, and if they do, it is a small amount over its value.
I have a little more than 1 000 Swedish 1 krona coins of N#1516 , N#1513, N#6862 , and N#2848 . I didn't collect them per se, I've just been too lazy to used them and put them in a jar. One day I realised they were no longer legal tender, and now I have no idea how to ger rid of them. The copper price is about 3.44 USD/kg, and it's about 7 kg pure copper. This means the total copper valuse is around 28 USD, which isn't even half of what the face value was. I really don't know what to do with them …
I called a local scrap dealer and he's willing to pay about USD$4 per pound of 75‐25 cupro-nickel. I don't know how the higher copper content of the older coins would affect this price though.

This means the total copper valuse is around 28 USD, which isn't even half of what the face value was. I really don't know what to do with them …
That's sad
I recommend giving this as an extra gift to anyone who swaps with you or sell as bulk lot in eBay ;)
Or just swap them, 100 or so at a time
LOL
100 Coins at one time, XD
Who even does that
Me, I guess?
In my recent swap, I sent 8 rolls of 5 Fts and 3 rolls of 10 Fts, so 550 coins total

How did you evade the authorities?
What would be the problem of the authorities?
One of my friends had a business trip there, and she took it.
I think its hilarious. I looked online and the Hungarian Forint is about 215 to a $1NZD, so this coin is worth just over 2 cents, which would make collecting them very cheap. I have a small set of Hungarian coins myself going from a tiny 1 Forint (Dated 1998 I think), then a 5 Forint and up to the 200 (A very nice coin). I remember in Europe in 2014, many 100 Forint coins being passed off as 1 Euros in Italy, Spain and Greece!
When I was 16 back in 1992, I actually collected 5 cent pieces for a while and it was much easier to get them from the bank (In $10 bags) although I usually only got $1 at a time. I was very poor back then and it took me 3 months to accumulate $31 worth of them (616 coins), until my mother told me to cut it out, and I had to take them back.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I am not allowed to sell on ebay, and I haven't been for the past 7 years. I no idea why, and ebay refuses to help me with the issue. 🤷♂️
