Welcome to Numista. Your coin appears to me to be a genuine 2008W burnished $50 gold piece. Usually, although not always, “first strike” is a arrangement by the mint and grading companies to get the first coins off the line from the new die to the grading companies to slab and grade and market them as “first strike”. It implies additional value but whether this is true or not is a matter of opinion. Therefore, because your coin is not slabbed and graded and does not state “first strike” specifically, it is not a first strike issue. To me, that fact does not matter either way as far as value. I would pay just slightly over melt value for the sake of owning one. Others may be willing to pay more than me and that is their choice. These coins are minted primarily as bullion for investment purposes and not so much as Numismatic issues.N#18451

Thank you for the helpful response! I picked it up for a little over spot, so i was just curious to see if it was worth getting graded. But I’ll probably just keep it as is.
