Help to identify Old Franch Coin (ECU?) [solved]

7 posts • viewed 102 times

Hi all,
I need help identifying this coin. Is it 1/12 ecu?

And I have one more question, it seems that this coin was re-minted from another coin, I wonder which one?

Hello and welcome,

To properly help with your identification we need a weight and diameter. It is definitely an ecu or fraction of an ecu of Louis the 14th, but weight and diameter are needed to be sure.

Yes, this is my cat

Hi, thanks for your answer)
weight is about 13.5 grams and diameter is about 35 mm.

It does look to be stuck over another piece.

Yes, this is my cat

It was struck over this one:  ½ Ecu - Louis XIV - France – Numista

If you look at the top of your reverse, at about 11:00 - 12:00 you see 9 I (curls) L .  This corresponds to about 6:00 - 7:00 on the obverse of the earlier type, the 1 6 in the date, the bottom of the king's hair (wig), and the L in LVD..

It does look to be stuck over another piece.

in addition:

I recognize year 1694, mint mark E.

The condition is better than average and the mint mark is not common.

Being no expert I would rate this coin about 150€.
