Be kind to new members

I was shocked and surprised to learn Andi got 64 yrs!  I really thought, by reading his previous posts,
‘oh another 14 yrs. boy with more enthousiasm than politeness…’
But I want to suggest again, let us here concentrate on coins and accept that everybody
is different and try to respect everybodies behaviour and feelings.
Sorry my poor english , it is not my first language.

...you can run,  but you can't hide...

We already have one thread about this, which is more than enough.

Nous avons déjà un fil à ce sujet, ce qui est plus que suffisant.

I am guilty myself of being a little on the lazy side and asking members for information - but I drew the line at asking about a coin's GRADE, not VALUE.  Even though both are subjective, I reasoned that I could find out the value somewhere else if I knew the grade - there are actual websites dedicated to that.  And I think in terms of numismatic knowledge, learning how to grade is more important anyway..

Maybe if all a person wanted to know is the value, there could be a stock answer of “Depends on grade, check out this website for values” ?

This topic turned from helpful and reasonable to some form of group bashing.

I completely understand the reasons for some of your anger/frustration, but this is not the right way.

In my opinion, any help is better than none. You can simply choose to ignore mean messages. If nothing else helps, a timeout will do.

A witch hunt like this will not lead to a change in behaviour, it only leads to more difficulties.

Regarding “throwaway” accounts, I think that making a special category for valuations would be all the help needed. The people that do want to help, can choose to do so then, the others can simply ignore it.

Forced policies or any other complications would, in my opinion, just hurt the forum in the long run.

I myself first visited this forum to get an identification for a coin, but this identification, although I could have easily done it myself today, lead to me getting more and more interested in the topic of numismatics. had I just gotten an answer like “do it yourself” or “do your own research first”, I would have most likely never even started getting interested. A few hours browsing through the catalogue later and I was absolutely fascinated of the subject.

TLDR: Sometimes, it is better to accept little annoyances like throwaway accounts or people obviously not interested it the topic, in some cases it would be worse for the forum and the spreading of the hobby. The first interaction with the topic has to happen somehow, after all.

A reminder to welcome new members and treat them with a little more patience turns into a dirty laundry and personal vendetta thread. Lets lock this thread and try again.

I don't know why

But, this "Ferocious Orge" or AndiPasculescu reminds of  “Cyprusian Warrior” or cyprusalexander who annoyed every member, especially Sjoelund to the Seventh Level of Hell

Ahoj.

So, colleagues, here we have a nice example, and you have the opportunity to realize yourself on a newcomer:

I'll start with the first and somewhat unusual for me example of how not to do it in an answer.

I agree with everything that’s been said here. I am not an idiot but… coming back after having been away for awhile I find it difficult to remember how to do a lot of the processes here,. That includes even replying to these messages until I finally figured out there’s a little button says  reply’. This may of course be obvious to seasoned members however what’s wrong with just some basic how to instructions somewhere.  Not all of us are gifted in these processes and as has been expressed here as well, why would members want to stick around if in fact it’s made as hard as it is.

Alternatively, perhaps there’s a site somewhere that one can discuss the basics of these processes away from  Numista before coming back back and applying them . If so does anybody know where that might be?

the majority being pump ‘n dump

Isn't that a term used for worthless penny stocks, that are promoted by stockbrokers as great investments and they encourage fools to invest in them as the “Next hottest thing, make $$$$$ now in good 1899 penny co, prices can only go up” etc.

The usage of it as a term here is pure gold. Its up there with Bubblegum coins to describe the endless mill of Australian base metal commemorative $1 and $2 coins.

But yeah, keep it kind people, coin collectors need to be recruited.

I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.
