Hello there!

This thread will serve as a central place for all requests to add new flags or to modify them.

I think you forgot to add this one: Flags of Yemenite states

https://en.numista.com/forum/topic91684.html#p1017926

There are so many that it takes some time to add them all. :D

I know, but you replied you had added it here, but probably forgit to paste it. No worries!

The Carolingian has the wrong thread link.

I had it opened in the time you looked. :) Carolingian link is fixed, thank you!

You may want to put a number to the request just to have a better follow up.

This list is a good idea.
I will do the same in another area.

Hello, good idea to join all the requests in the same topic.

I have two more flag change options:

PUERTO RICO: Put the flag of Spain that was used between 1843 and 1931, since the coins of Puerto Rico are within this period:

https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandera_de_Espa%C3%B1a#/media/Archivo:Flag_of_Spain_(1785%E2%80%931873,_1875%E2%80%931931).svg

SPANISH NOTGELD: Most of the Notgelds coins and banknotes of Spain correspond to the Civil War Period (1936-1939), so I would put the flags of both sides (Spanish Republic and Nationalist Faction) as an animated image:

https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandera_de_Espa%C3%B1a#/media/Archivo:Flag_of_Spain_(1931%E2%80%931939).svg

Oscar,

The Spanish Notgeld sections should be arranged under each province, then by city or town.

It should be the city or town's flag that should be used - unless the city or town hasn't got a flag, then it should be the flag of the province that should be used instead.

Aidan.

Can we add a flag to Upper Volta ?

Also this one for Anjouan ?

This one for  Brittany?

This one for Corsica?

This one for Calais?

This one for ISIS …

This one for Neutral Moresnet

Hi Aidan, I know what you say, but I'm talking about flags shown in main page coin and banknote catalog, this one:

The Spanish Notgeld section should be split into 2 main sections indicated by their respective flags - the flag of the Spanish Second Republic for the Republicans, & the flag of Francoist Spain for the Nationalists, then the sub-sections should be put under either of those 2 main sections.

Aidan.

Sorry but since you've closed all single request I don't see many improvements here, I just see my initial thread marked as rejected and this thread is not moving…

Hello,

I added some flags:

  • Christinia: added
  • Carolingian Empire: The Karolus monogram would not be legible on such a small flag. I used the cross instead.
  • Novorossiya: added
  • Easter Island: added
  • Minerva: added
  • Micronesia: added
  • Atlantium: added
  • Yemenite states: 3 flags added
  • British West Florida: added
  • TAAF: added
  • Westarctica: added
  • Åland: added
  • Liberland: added
  • French overseas: The proposed flags don't seem to be the flags used on each territory at the tome the coins were issued. I'd rather keep the French flag for French colonies, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Réunion.
  • Antarctica: I rather added the Graham Bartram's flag proposal.

Central Asia and the requests after Antarctica are not started yet.

Here the one for Leeward Islands

Also the Libya flag is missing on first level but not on second one …

The same goes for Yugoslavia:

Always look on the bright side of life!

For Sidi Bel Abbès  we may use this as a flag.

For Kingdom of Atooi we can use this flag.

For the Grand Duchy of Avram we may use this as a flag.
Here the flag of City of Mouscron.

Below the flag of Federation of Damanhur:

The flag for Argentine Antarctica.

The flag of Esperantujo.

For Clipperton Island please can you use the French flag as the island is directly under the french government administration.

Even if it was rejected before here the flag for French Guiana, it feels right based on that Xavier sentence: “Regarding the initial query about flags, the current approach of Numista is to show the latest flag (or at least the latest when coins were still issues - see Afghanistan for example).”

Always look on the bright side of life!

The following flags from the previous list are added:

20. Kingdom of Armenia

21. Kingdom of Elleore

22. Zamunda

23. Donetsk Republic
52. Lybia section (including Fezzan and Tripolitania)

53. Yugoslavia section (including Yugoslavia notgeld)
54. Fezzan

24. Puerto Rico: I modified the flag.

25. Spanish notgeld: I prefer avoiding new animated flags. Let's rather use the right flag for each issuer.
26. Upper Volta: flag added

27. Anjouan: flag added

28. Brittany: flag added

29. Corsica: flag added

30. Calais: flag added

31. Islamic State of Iraq and Syria: flag added

32. Neutral Moresnet: flag added

33. Confederate States: flag added

34. Connecticut: flag added (the flag was adopted only in 1897, but it is derived from the seal, which was already in use at the time of the coinage)

35. Maryland: flag added (similar consideration)

36. Massachusetts: flag added (I used the pine tree flag rather than the modern flag)
37. New Jersey (similar consideration as Connecticut)

38. New York : flag added (I used the flag with the buff background color, which was used from 1778 to 1901)

39. Vermont: flag added (similar consideration as Connecticut)

40. Virginia: flag added (similar consideration as Connecticut)

41. Alaska: flag added

Catalogue administrator

Hello,

I added the flags 42 to 51 and 55 to 62 as requested, with the following exceptions:

  • Princely state of Jind and Grand Duchy of Avram : I used only the inner part of the coat of arms
  • Sidi Bel Abbès: Oran was a French department in 1918; I believe it's fine to keep the French flag.

Also, I reassigned the flag of Atlantis to the correct issuer.

This one is tough to add to the overview as no one link was made to issuer and several issuers share similar names.

Can someone make a quick overview of what need to be done?

Just as an example, it was given 3 different flag for Grand-Duchy of Tuscany, but I can't find this specific issuer…

I suggest we keep the Italian flags in their own topic, as it is a big topic which deserves specific discussion and attention.

There are some polities currently lacking distinct flagged sections, but I'm not sure if that is within the purview of this thread, so I'll just address some ones I noticed.

* British West Africa and East Africa should use the Union Jack. The individual colonies all had distinct flags so representing them all with just one isn't particularly accurate, but they did all fly the Union Jack. This was the solution reached with British West Indies.
* The flag of the Democratic Republic of Georgia
* British India should use the Star of India
* The flag of the Territory of Papua

The new flag of Martinique was adopted on 2 February 2023.

The Alamut State (nizari_dynasty_assassins) had a flag… it is just red but it is something.  x)

(Most coins were minted under the red one, at least, so I think that one would suffice.)

A flag for the Beylik of Aydin (aydin_beylik) can be found here:

Banu Ifran dynasty (banu_ifran_dynasty) flag can be found here:

The current flag should be used for South African banknotes & coins dated from 1994 & later.

The older flag should be used for those up to & including 1993.

Hello!

The issuer has been created and exists; its coins (two pages--one for each ruler who issued coins) are just pending. Here is one of them:

Now that we have created pre Australian Federation colonies/States we need to add these flags for them

New South Wales

Queensland

South Australia

Tasmania

Victoria

Western Australia

There are some pre Federation tokens/Coins that do not fit into any particular Colony. They may have been used in all of them. They can remain in a section we are re-naming Australian Colonies/States and the flag for this section should be this one

this is known as the Australian Colonial Flag and was used as a unifying flag prior to Federation.

We need to remove the one we are currently using which is this one … This is the wrong Flag for Australian Colonial

As it's the same ruling authority for 1910-1936, I don't have a technical solution to apply different flag (flags can be specified by ruling authorities)

Hello,

I'm glad to see progress here after several month without progress but struggle to understand how we handle requests.

1 - I made an overview with request classified by order of request date, now from 1 to 137, from 1 to 10 all is done, the request for central asia back in 2020 is still pending but request made the 18 November 2023 are done, how do you pick request?

2 - Just to take one exemple, Benelux request was done the 23 of May and we currently have items on it, request is still pending, Australian Colonies request was asked the 18 of November and done the 18 of November but no items are link to this issuer, why is it more important to solve a request to an inactive issuer than an active one?

So as it seems useless to continue to do the update of the above listing I will not do it anymore.

I don't understand why equest are done on a random order, request 63 is pending but request 137 is done, it's frustrating to see that we are investing time to improve things and I feel like coins issuers are the oinly one thta count for admins and Exonumia are not lookup. I feel we are missing an admin thta collect Exonumia or banknote to understand tht coins are not the only things on this web.

Sorry, my bad. I jumped in this thread because Australian and Islamic requests came from Issuer addition I handled recently; I must confess I hate never ending threads like this one; I know Numista use them for some topics (duplicates, images fix, flags) but I personnally prefer by a lot having dedicated tickets. This way the age of requests and status is way easier to track.

My advise would be to close this thread, and recreate a big one with your updated table you took time to create. Then not addind new things in it, just create another tickets when missing flags are spotted.
