Quote: "Sulfur"The one thing that has been annoying me is on the coin/banknote search. After typing in what I want to search, pressing 'Enter' opens the option to display the special keyboard rather than going through with the search. Same thing applies to any field on the 'Add filter' link: pressing Enter just opens the special keyboard.
This is fixed :)

Another minor thing:
the search field appears to be broken on some admin pages (e.g. the currency administration page)

Hi

Maybe "Swap monitor" page also needs some mending.

If user wants to see total swap history, the clicks go:
1. Show hidden swaps (moved back to the top)
2. Show more (moved back to the top)
3. Show hidden swaps (moved back to the top / a page as you like it, after 3 clicks and two scroll downs)
Maybe step 2 and 3 can be joined, since user decides in step 1 to see hidden swaps already.

It would also be of use, if user could sort and view "Swap monitor" based on status with dropdown menu. Since user is always pointed to the top of the page after step 1 & 2 - it seems it would be more user friendly and much simpler if "Show hidden swaps" would be an option with radiobutton or checkbox at the top of the page.

I really miss the search box at the top
of the page that I frequently use. If the new design had this I would be happy to use it but for now I will be sticking with the old design for that reason alone.

Why can't you show the My account banner for members and the regular banner for anuone that comes in new?
It is tiresome to switch every time to my account.

Thanks,
Ben

Hit the "Pin" icon when you open user tab, its just below "My account" when you open it...

Ben, just click that little pin that appears on the right edge and account menu will never disappear.

Xavier,

Can you please swap the two menu's on top? On mobile, there is no way of pinning the most important menu, with My Coins and My Swaps, so on mobile it always take an extra step to get there. Please make this a priority.

I agree with you, mate!
Hi,

I feel on my screen it just doesn't look good.

There's way too much white on the centre of the page

The old design simply looks sharper and more appealing to me. I'm really trying to like it, I keep going back to try it, but it feels clunky and less visually appealing

Is this personal preference or screen size related?

I like the new design as well, don't get me wrong. I'm using it and I'm quite used to it. It also has nothing to do with hurry, but I'd love to see it turned around. The personal and important options (My coins, My swaps) should be in the main bar and the other options (Banknotes, Swaps) in the secondary menu.

I think if you would put a click counter on the menu, you'd see that "My swaps" is used way more than "Swaps".

Hello,
I'm still unsure about how to make this right. For me, the most important part is the access to the catalogue, so I can't simply swap the two menus. So I can see imagine only two solutions to have My coins and My swaps accessible via a single click on mobile:
  • Mixing the 2 menus, for example: Coins, Banknotes, My Coins, My banknotes, My swaps, More; and have all the rest in a submenu when clicking on More. This organization doesn't look very logical to me.
  • Showing more items in the menu. For instance we could have My coins, My banknotes, My swaps and Messages shown by default. We would still have My wishes, Profile, Settings and Sign out as an expandable menu. (By the way, I believe we should align in some way the definition of my wishes and the definition of my collections). I will explore further this approach.

I rarely look at Numista on a mobile phone. I use a PC with double monitors. I am uploading pages, editing pics using Paintshop Pro, sourcing information from other sources such as RAM and Perth Mint. Checking submissions and requests. referring to spreadsheets and I consider myself a power user of Numista. Trying to do all that on a mobile phone would drive me mental. So I am very happy with the way it is now.

I think it would because there is only one design. There is not a specific separate app for mobile phone use as far as i am aware.

Quote: "RuthMorrisonMR"Nowadays, besides the information that can be offered from the website to consumers, it is very important to make a good web design and to place everything correctly in order to make the site more attractive and to increase the traffic. When you talk about numismatics, you need to think about all the aspects that are involved in their fans, numismatics.
This site first came into being around 13 years ago. It has constantly evolved and improved during that time. The users of the site are encouraged to suggest improvements as can be seen if you check out some of the historical posts about that very subject.

I would suggest that it is the best Numismatic website you will ever find on the World Wide Web. It brings together Numismaticists from all continents and allows them to learn about, catalogue, swap, and enjoy coins. If you have only been here a few days you might not realise just what it is yet. But if you hang around you will soon realise how good it is.

Cheers Mike

Hello Xavier,

Would it be possible to add a private section where the collector could record: who they purchased the coin from, when and how much they paid? Or perhaps just a large field for keeping details to help keep track of the provenance of each coin, maybe be able to upload copies of Auction details etc. This is becoming more important as the counterfeiters become more clever.

Also for collectors of ancient coins, it would be helpful if there were fields to record the weight, diameter, thickness [perhaps die axis and specific gravity] of their coin [they vary quite a lot] rather than the original one in the database. Then we could keep all our coin details together in one place, this website. This addition would require more space and as such could be added to your premium account option.

Thank you for all your good work. Your website and helpers are great.

Michael
Hi,

3 points!
-----------

(1)First.
I got this :
"""""" German East Africa (1)
Germany
German Democratic Republic (127)
German Notgeld (2)
See sub-sections
Hamburg, Federal state of (1)
Hesse, Federal state of
Rhine, Prussian province of
Saxony, Prussian province of
German states
See sub-sections
""""""

The last three states I see NO coins. But I have coins from each from those states.

Clicking on "GERMANY NOTGELD" I got this :
""""""
11 coins • 0 for swap
Germany › German Notgeld
""""""

NO differences between OLD and NEW design!!

(2)Second.
The INDEX page is ending with "An unexpected error has occurred.". Maybe it is mine OLD computer (VISTA).

(3)Third.
On this page ......../vos_pieces.php?ct=coin&issuer=finlande&swap=1
The coins are sorted descending in grades; after changing a line those order for that single coin/year is reset to ascending order.

PS. I don't know if these points are mentioned before.

Have a nice day.
With regards.
Bert.

Hello,
I just published 2 new features for the mobile version of the new design:
  • You can pin part of the account menu, similarly to what can already be done on the desktop version. Only the following elements are pinned: my coins, my banknotes, my swaps and messages.
  • A button at the top allows to search the coin catalogue, the banknote catalogue, the users and the forum, similarly to what can already be done on the desktop version.
Xavier,

Thank you for adding the search box to the new version! That was the one thing that I was missing the most from the older version and now that you have added it I guess there is no reason for me not so make the switch. Keep up all the hard work Numista has changed so much over the years and I hope everyone appreciates all the work everyone has put into making it what it is.

Hi Xavier,

I see that the search does not support context search feature any more in the new design, see what I mean, in the old one it was as below.

Now it is as at right
(I check in desktop Chrome under Win10)

I think this have to be fixed.

I was literally just about to type a big long paragraph about how I don't like the new design, and was about to ask if there was going to be an option to go back to the old design when I literally saw the button at the top.

I'm still trying and failing to like it :( Too many design elements make it plain ugly for me. I really feel you need to diffuse the white and give it borders.

Could we get an indicator for open verifications because I seldom use the country list, that's the only way to see that you have open requests right now. Maybe change the fond of Coins and Banknotes to bold that would be a non offensive way to animate clicking on them because admins will mostlikely always have open requests so a color dot might be irritating.

Please don't expire the old design. The new one is still terrible for me on pc.

I must agree! For me, the overall design works OK but this search function is a big regression in functionality...

...because instead of staying open so that you can conveniently modify your search parameters, it closes up and shows your selection as "filters" like this.

Then I have to click again to see the advanced search form. If you are scanning through a lot of search options to try and identify a damaged or unknown coin, this really is a very serious hinderance.

In fact, this search form is the only thing I have a problem with on the new design, but it is a huge problem and although I've raised it before, I've had no feedback. :-(

Please could we look at having something like the old "Advanced Search" form put back in before the old design is expired?

I disagree, fully. Some of us users don't need it open all the time. I would there for propose a wrap functionality, the same as it is with MyCoins tab => hide/show by your own preference.

Regarding the search system:

- I would seriously miss the old content search; it was quite common that the coin I was looking for was already in the 2-3 results given, and it was also extremely useful for quickly navigating to countries as well
- one feature I did like was the general word search, which was, however, only available in the basic search window; so it's nice that the combined basic/advanced setup in the new design allows combining the word search with an advanced-only filter, such as a date or size range
- OTOH, while I never used the tag cloud on the landing page of the search, I suspect that there are many users who did use it, and I can't see any equivalent to it on any new-design pages
- the text of the "Add filters" button is misleading, since it also allows removing and changing filters, which is likely to be its more common use; it should say "Edit filters"
- as a side-note, the colourful background of the search window is pretty darn distracting

Search issues aside, I would probably miss the "My collection" link, which immediately prompted me to sign in, and then immediately took me to a useful page. I can't see anything comparable in the new design.
Quote: "Xavier"
What about something like that, which would better use and structure the available space?
No, no, no. Sorry mate, but that looks terrible! I think Oggy was talking avout the disappearence if the blue line under the title. But please don't medd with the blue info box at right.

Hello.
Now every time I visit the site, I get a new design. Can I save the old design permanently somewhere in the settings?
Thank you.
Hello Cyrillius,
The old design is only available during the transition period. It will be completely removed on November 16th.
Hi Xavier,
I can still access the old design on my phone and it works perfectly fine. But this afternoon on my laptop I clicked on the new design, it worked for a few pages, but ever since I've had this error come up. I've refreshed the page, restarted the browser and all sorts for the past few hours. Any idea what is causing it? I use Google Chrome on both my laptop and mobile.

Thanks,
Andy
Sorry for that. It's fixed.

Is there a way to chose My banknotes at deafult map, instead of My coins?
I'd personally keep the old one, at least as an option. The new one might be better for phones but that's all. The new one looks very "sterile" to me (no coins in the background) + I am really missing the "Messages" tab (which I have to search under "My account".
I'd at least add the option to "lock" the extra menu (that appears after clicking at "My account") but anyway, putting messages to the main one could be also a good solution.

What I don't like with the new design is the start page. Everytime I type in numista.com on the computer at work, I think I typed wrong since it looks so similar to Colnec.....I mean another site.
Please bring back the old design, the new one is really harsh on my eyes...

Any intentions on letting user use the old view? I'd imagine all the menus etc would be interchangable, they were for a while so i'm not sure why you'd remove the ability to switch between classic and the new design.

I really miss the "shaking" Exchanges button.
in my opinion it is now really time to just accept the new design as given and work with and improve this one... I personally don't see a reason to go back to the old one, even if the new one can be improved in minor things... keeping the same topic up for the next 700 years of numista is kind of annoying ;-)

Hello,
Keeping the new design as an option in parallel of the new design is not possible. I can't maintain both on the long term.
As the old design has been removed more than a month ago, I agree we should close this topic. Feel free to open new topics if you have suggestions to improve the current design.
