are you sure neither of you has (by mistake) already accepted the swap (check it in the log on top of your swap page), in that case the changes you make will not be saved. First the other person has to deny the offer and then you can continue editing the swap.
Have this happen a few times already, the confirming a swap could use an extra confirmation pop-up to avoid such unwanted confirmations.
