Currently we have the following TYPE categories for banknotes: Standard banknote / Commemorative / Local / Trial / Fantasy banknotes
I have vague memories of my finance classes and somehow I am not 100% comfortable with these categories.
I am no expert, but I have come accross, the following things so far:
Tax note
Cash ticket
Treasury bill
Interest paying legal tender treasury bill
Interestless legal tender tax note
Silver certificate (USA)
I have even found a military canteen voucher from Britain, which I cannot locate now
...
... and this is obviously far from complete...
Do we have a monetary / financial guru around in this community, who could enlight us on the proper financial terminology?
Some of these categories are already present in our banknote catalogue. We have plenty of US silver certificates but these are just one type of note the US Treasury used to issue (along with gold certificates) that specified the way in which the notes were guaranteed.
Treasury bills come in all sorts of varieties, including those which bore interest. Speaking personally, an interest bearing note is a different animal to a non-interest bearing note but whether this is something we need to specify right now is hard to say as this kind of note disappeared well over a century ago.
I would agree that a category for military vouchers would be useful. Currently, all military notes seem to be treated equally. That is, both canteen vouchers like https://en.numista.com/catalogue/note205481.html and general currency issued by military authorities like https://en.numista.com/catalogue/note205023.html.
I'm not sure about tax notes, unless you're refering to the adopengő, which is currently mixed up with the quite separate pengő.

British Armed Forces notes & the U.S. Military Payment Certificates need to be in their own sections, along with other notes issued for use by military personnel, such as the Wehrmacht notes for Nazi Germany.

1) So based on all this, would you suggest a new categorization? ... or shall we just leave it as is?
2) I requested the Adópengő to be a separate currency already

What's needed in the short term is to get the military vouchers "out of the way" so we can see what's going on with the "real" paper money, then find the best way of including them. Right now they're cluttering up countries such as the UK and USA. I see that postal orders are being put in the token section for now. Perhaps that would be the best place for military vouchers too?

"Military notes definitely need their own category as do postal orders."
- I agree. I've been collecting for over 40 years & these collectors usually have their own clubs/sectors within most collector associations (like RCNA).
It also doesn't make sense to see "Fantasy banknote" as a dropdown "type" of banknote (for the main catalogue). They are a very recent novelty item & IMO have no place in a regular World catalogue.

Please let's keep this sort of nonsense out of Numista. I'm sick and tired of seeing this kind of thing at dealer fairs and I certainly see no place for them here. Just because someone's printed them doesn't make them eligible for inclusion.
