This suggestion is about adding new items into DB. Sometimes, (particularly, banknotes database at the moment ) a few users could add the same item simultaneously. Is there any mechanism to avoid wasting time for contributors which pages is rejected (cause someone was the first to add the same item)? I guess - no.
What if, to make all new items (even "waiting for approval" status) already searchable in the catalogue. I suppose, It is good idea to show this items, but to disable them from adding into users' collection temporarily. It could make hint to everybody (of course, contributors) that this item has been already added and just waiting for approval.
If you are a referee you most likely have seen many things that you wouldn't want to be seen in the catalog.
And I am glad that most of these things aren't seen by the wider membership.
So I would be against this motion.
This is just a phase, we don't normaly get hundreds of requests a day for only a couple of people to work on. With time and more referees the chance of double requets will get even smaller.
Yesterday I had three requests for the creation of the same note, by three different collectors. I have had a number of doubles, but the triple was a first for me.

Yes, It is just a phase, but IMHO we need to find a compromise anyway (to motivate contributors, but not waste their time). As for me, very often when I was trying to add some coins (as a rule, it was related to recently issued coins) most of the time my changes finally were rejected (someone added that coin already). If I had known that another contributors had already done it, I would have never spent my time for useless work!
When I talked about "simultaneously" I meant - time duration between start of adding and time of validation in a whole validation workflow (it can be last up to 1 week or even more). As a result, this collision happens quite often.
I have a suggestion, kind of compromise:
When someone added a new item, make it searchable in Search Engine , but this coin would be displayed with core set of parameters (Issuer, Year, Denomination, Reference #) without opening item's page AND with mark "under validation process" or smth. like that.
Dear collectors and referees, could you please, support my idea. It is important, particularly when banknote DB actively grows. Thanks! T

So how do you decide who will be the participant? The one who adds the coin first or the one who adds it with perfect description but is last in the row? Luckily I am managing only one country, but would still love to hear this one out?

Two issues here:
1st: Activity of referee, many said on this part in the past..
2nd: Coin in verification process to be included in search results (this one has merit)
you have my tick!
Hello.
I understand this situation and support your proposal. I just want to add: for example, if I ask you to add some information and click the "Ask to editing" button, then there are times when this request does not return for publication for a very long time. In this case, I would suggest not including editing pages in the search results.
