Hi,
Regarding Guernsey 1986 Commonwealth Games commemorative two pound coin. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces131311.html
This coin is listed as Silver 0.925.
I had a request to change it to 0.500 Silver. I aske for more information to verify this.
However after searching myself I have found both 0.925 and 0.500 were produced.
mintage levels also are questionable - 2,000 / 2,500 / 50,000.
The listings I found are here: copy & paste links.
You'll notice the more superior coin (0.925) has a better case.
My question is this:
Is this a different coin, and should it have a separate listing?
Or should there just be a note to different composition being available?
Coin silver alloys are mostly silver and copper.
Density of Ag(.925) = 10.35g/cm³
Density of Ag(.500) = 9.642g/cm³
There are ony two options, either the coins have the same weight or the same volume.
If these are the properties of the .925 coin:
Weight: 28.82g
Diameter: 38.61 mm
A .500 coin with the same mass would be ~0.2mm thicker (this is not so accuarate because coins have a relief) or it would weight 26,32g.

Hi !
Same problem exists with Belgium 500 francs 1980 coins : this coin exists both in CuNi silver clad version and in 0.510silver. Thickness and weight are identical !
