The 300's countries club was fun but it also had
frustrating sides, for example when the "French Southern and Antarctic Lands" suddenly lose its "country" status, and how many others do. Also a collector with a bunch of German HRE coins only had one country, but the game more or less survived until the advent of "issuers".
The pleasure / frustration balance of the 300 countries game was unfavorable, several historical members of Numista even left the site because of the downgrading of one of their coins to the token section.
Now the "country" entity only represents a geographical agglomeration with no link to history. For example the "Lorraine" issuer of the HRE is included in France and many other examples in this case.
The concept of country only survives for convenience. Other sites, for example for the collection of world stamps, have abandoned this type of geographical grouping.
What really counts are the" issuers" but obviously there has been an exponential explosion, from the simple city having issued emergency currencies to an whole country, the concept of issuer does not take into account a certain quantity of coins emitted and how could it?
So there's no more competition,
for the number of countries that doesn't represent much anymore
or for the number of issuers that HRE amateurs would win hands down, but that doesn't stop me from giving priority in my swaps or my purchases to any new issuer who would point his nose!
