Many older Japanese coins have it once in Japanese and once in Latin letters/Arabic numerals.
It's not very uncommon.

Greek euro circulation coins have a denomination on both sides:

And this series from Uganda:

Syrian wartime emergency piste has denomination in french on 1 side and the same in Arabic on the other. So sorta the same thing

Iceland from 1980 issued ~8 denominations of coins with number on one side and text on the other, simarly as in Cuba. E.g. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1549.html

In the Swiss cantons this was not unusual:

5 Rappen from Basel:

Sometimes this was expressed in different sub-units of the main currency. E.g. Aargau 1 Batzen = 10 Rappen (= 0.1 Frank):

And of course, there are also coins with the denomination on the edge. E.g 5 Austrian Schillings 1934.

Not sure I understand the issue of denomination on both sides of a coin: all Greek Euro/ cents have it.

Austrian 1 Euro-Cent, 2 & 5 Euro-Cents have the denominations expressed in words on their obverses.

Have a look here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Austrian_euro_coins .

The year 2006 series of Azerbaijan (six coins) has denominations on both sides and no year on either side. The largest denomination is 50 Qəpik: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces8844.html
