I picked up this 1955 Farthing out of a bin for 20 Cents. It has two holes in it but the reason I got it is because it appears to be of different metal. It's definitely not bronze. And I haven't been able to find anything about it. Has anyone come across this?
Agreed with emilu2 - and it is nickel-plated to use on a charm bracelet.
I reckon. It was not for use on a necklace, as those two holes will put the wren bird (on the reverse) upside-down when worn. As it is a small coin, a charm braclet is more likely. I used to have a half-penny of similar date, and it too was silver-coloured, like yours. Luckily on mine there were parts of the plating (more likely nickel rather than silver) coming away, so must have been done years ago. IMy coin was previously fitted in a holder as the points that held it in there were showing through the bronze underneath. So as the holes in yours do not show the bronze through, they must have been drilled first, then plated.
