Indian Head - 1864 with die crack

3 posts
Hi,

I have this Indian Head penny, 1864 with no L in hairs, but it has a die crack across the face. Is this worth anything to people?

It has dirt collected in it, but the coin is crisp, XF+ at the minimum. The edges are all sharp on the letters still, barely circulated. Edges have no dings.

Any thoughts on this?

[Sorry for my poor scanner]
That is a excellent example of a die crack. The bigger the the crack the rarer the coin, as big cracks are easier for machine operators and quality control people to spot and then stop the coins from entering into circulation.
Sweetness. I should have it valued by someone. Do any of you have a guess on this?

I don't think I would part with this one since it is such a handsome coin [I love the contrast the dustiness gives it], but it's just cool to know what you have. :D
