Today, I added my 1,000th German Notgeld banknote to my collection. Taken me a while to get there, but am very happy to have reached this target. A good day.I
Be kind to people. Sharing is Caring. Collect what you like and not by the Crowd.
To seek for perfection, it is too painful and there is a very high price to pay. To seek for something comfortable is more easy. To seek for nothing is even more easy.
Welcome to the Notgeld world .. I'm almost at 1500 German Notgeld and almost to 1000 with Austrian Notgeld .. The fun part is translating the notes for the stories, fables and quotes ..

derf,
I have most of my problems with the first letter. Being a capital, the design of this letter is often confusing, so to looking for a non existing place.
Troll through the whole alphabet.
I have now learnt to reduce by face value, then reduce by year. That helps dramatically.
If I still do not find it, then I just fill the Nif file. The referee does the rest. Working well now I have this little system. Still make the odd mistake, adding one that is already there.

Funny to think that I am so old that I learnt the old German letters at school. I too collect both paper and coin notgeld. I will today buy “Die deutschen Notmünzen” catalog.
I hope no one thought that I was making fun of your difficulties with the Gothic alfabet. It was a normal school learning when I was 7 year old. Shortly after my time it was stoped as a class.
Could one of you collectors of paper notgeld tell me if there exists a database made for paper notgeld?

No-one took as you were making fun of us, for me, it more you poking fun at yourself ..
There are several websites that cater to paper Notgeld, but the only database site where you can log your collection would be colnect.com .. They have standard and premium accounts. Premium is a paid for situation, and they are always trying to get you to upgrade to premium. If people think that some of the team members and referees are obnoxious and rude here on Numista, they haven't had to deal with the ones on colnect. But, all in all, if you don't get to involved with the hierarchy, then it's not a problem ..

Yes I was poking fun at myself! I will read about Colnect and see what they can offer. Is it Colnect you other collectors use? I have a lot of Notgeld.
Thank you for help.
Derf,
I think I will be able to Use Colnct.com, it is better than I had expected. The first note I tried was unknown, but the next was. I have a big box full and it will be good to know what I have. Both coin and paper Notgeld are fascinating.
Thank you again.
ps I am very glad I found Numista last year, a fine program!
Odd I will have to see if I can find the one my grandfather gave me. When he was in Germany in late 20's. It has on it "snow on the roof" . Which my old boss told me ,meant the place also had a cat house . Not sure if true but on the note is a blinding and on the second floor there is a lady waving in the window.
Been very busy sorting and adding the German Notgeld banknotes to my collection.
Now my total reached 1,300 this morning. Lots more of them still to sort. Also getting doubles, although, some are not in very good condition.
Be careful collecting notgeld. It gets out of hand very quickly. I started off buying a few random Austrian pieces, and BOOM! At last (attempt) to count I had WAY over 10,000 pieces. Wooden, aluminum foil, silk, linen, leather, encased postage.... it will overwhelm you quick
It can overwhelm me ever day, if it wants to. I have now finished sorting the 700 banknotes that I received as an exchange.
My German Notgeld collection now stands at 1,479. Also, in this swap were some Austrian Notgeld, and a few Austrian banknotes.
It has taken me a month to sort through, but am extremely happy with my efforts. Even ended up with some swaps, but not all of these are in good condition.
