Still circulating after all these years!

On Friday afternoon, I received a 1943-P war nickel in my change at a restaurant.  I am proud that 70-year-old pennies and nickels still circulate here in the US!  Very few other places on Earth can also say that.

Have you found old coins in your pockets lately?
There is something even more strange: recently I got a crispy new one dollar bill dated 1983!  8)
I have no idea how come it remained almost uncirculated for almost 30 years. Of course I'll keep it, just for fun.
Haven't found a lot of old coins in my pockets lately, the last few have been were a 1988 Canadian quarter and a couple wheat back pennies.

Great find!
Here in the UK, although not that old the 1971 pennies and 2 pences are still about. You can just tell by the patina that you have one in your change. They still look great in my opinion.
Recently I went to buy in a small shop near my house and the person who gave me the my change, tried to "cheat me" giving me a coin which is not of legal circulation in the country, probably someone gave it in payment of a purchase and he, feeling cheated, tried to make me the same. My wife noticed my look of surprise and asked me, what happened? and I loudly said "no problem, is a silver coin" because the money was 1/10 of Balboa (Panama, 1962, silver 0.900). The business owner immediately upon hearing this told me "if you want it I can give you another coin" I smiled at him and just said, "do not worry that's right ... have a nice day".
Last night I found a 1952-D silver dime at the supermarket.  I am having very good luck finding silver coins lately!
I found a 1939 nickel, 1941 nickel, and a 1917 penny in my pocket change. Needless to say, not all at the same time!
yes my brother in law gave me a 1952 u.s dime a week ago and said he received it back from pop machine at work .they tend to still pop up every now and then too bad more mercury dimes dont pop up i havent got one in circulation since the 1980s
Four cents were scattered on the sidewalk along mt walk to work this morning.  One of them was a 1954 cent!

Keep up all this finding! I thought that there was no way to find silver coins anymore, all the change has been picked through.

I got four wheat's at a store one time and asked the cashier about the pennies, he said some guy payed $10 in old pennies, and so I swapped a $10 bill for about $10 in wheat pennies.
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
in the past few months I have found a canadian 1940 penny, a silver canadian 1968 quarter, and a family friend found a 1947 maple leaf canadian nickel.

A friend dropped by last weekend and gave me a Canadian 1 cent in XF 1951 he had just got it in his change at a local coffee shop. Would love to know the history of that one!  best wishes  Cec.

Figures, Romania with their governments.
strange thing happened yesterday. i received a 1936 canadian penny in circulation in usa. that was the first time i ever got one back, although i find elizabeth pennies nickels dimes and quarters fairly frequently, nothing ever of george. besides that about five years ago i received a panama quarter back from candy bar machine, and one other time i received a france 1 franc back from pop machine. does anyone else from time to time receive foreign change in their own countries circulation i wonder.

Other than the Channel islands' coins. I was checking the Tuck Shop tin at Youth Club and I spotted a 1994 D-Day 50p. The old lady who is on the tuck shop didn't notice. I swapped it for a regular one. It's up for swap.
Well, in Argentina the oldest coins in circulation are from 1992 up to now (because of the Ley de Convertibilidad -law of convertibility-). The Central Bank is so lazy to create new coins that we still have to use them.
In my opinion, Argentinian currency is awful  :(
i must have spoke too soon now today i receive a wheat penny 1944 ,and at another store while getting milk i receive a 1952 canadian penny. the first one ive received of those besides a few days ago when i received the 1936 canadian penny .this makes four days in a row ive received a wheat penny back in change.these must be some hard times becouse ive noticed this year im constantly getting wheat pennies back every other time i purchase something in cash.and plus i think near as many canadian pennies are floating around as american.of course i just live across the great lake erie from canada though .but never in my years have i seen so many being exchanged on a daily basis .maybe a couple a year before . now it seems like weekly i receive something to hoard i bet ive collected over 200 candian pennies this year alone in circulation and probably over a hundred wheaties .come on people start throwin all the indian heads out to me .ive got one back this year .what would really be nice would to get a flying eagle back in circulation that would be the day

...let alone, any currency.

If I had to choose one of the most awful currencies now circulating, it'd be the Costa Rican colon. What are they doing, being such giant coins? And only 500 Colones is worth a dollar. And they're brass too.

Anyways I've gotten a Seated Liberty dime from the 18-somethings (too lazy to get it out of my silver pile), although it's really worn. The first really old coin I got, even before I started collecting, was a 1929 S penny down Main Street in Surf City (Huntington Beach), my hometown. It was special at the time because I was just a kiddier kid and I didn't even collect. But later on I started getting Buffalo nickels (most recently, a quarter-year ago), Wartime nickels (half a year ago and 5 days ago), Silver FDRs (a year ago), and a whole bunch of wheats, some from wartime even in 40's. I guess it's just luck because I've probably gotten the most old coins in circulation than anyone's gotten. I've got a whole junk pile of literally hundreds of 1940's nickels that I just find all the time.

As for finding foreign coins in circulation, Canadian coins ranging cent to quarter, Panamian nickels and quarters, a Bahamian penny, a UAE dirham, a South Korean 100 Won (as a quarter, though worth a dime), a Dominican Republic quarter, and a Belize quarter. After writing this down it's crazy about what I found in my home country for only 2 years.

60 years to go (50 years in Japanese years).

I love finding old stuff in my change! I work a cash register, so I get even more stuff to sift through. :P Found an 1882 Indian head penny today! Oldest penny I've got.

Thanks to inflation, in Costa Rica we don't have to worry about finding old coins in our change. LOL...

I found a 1907 Liberty Head V Nickel with the rest of my change on my nightstand and today I got a 1961 Franklin half dollar as part of my change from a fast food joint. I can't complain, it has been a good couple of days in the coin collecting department.
About a week ago I got a French Indochina 1922 A 10 centimes at subway.
A friend got a 1928 B twenty dollar bill he gave me for 20
Now in oshkosh with eea here we will get a flood of different coins from all over
It is, what it is, or is it.
I am sorry EAA  a really big air show

Once in a donation jar I saw a wheat cent. The cashier was a friend of my grandmother, so she let me have it. It was 1934 (not the best grade, but hey). Later I put in 2 (normal) pennies into that jar.
For reference, I got this in the U.S. The cashier didn't even care that it was foreign, and I pretended not to notice (you don't draw attention).

Fantastic! To snag a coin so old (& in such nice shape) these days is remarkable.

Found a 1936-B 20 rappen coin in lovely shape while looking through some Swiss change. I caught a fleeting glimpse of a 1929 10 rappen but I wasn’t able to find it again (I did find a ‘39 so it may have been that). As someone else already pointed out, 1971 is the oldest you can get in British change but it can go back centuries when you go abroad.
