Hi

The idea was probably published before. Does anyone feel like having a tool for picture rating with possibilities:
  • good/bad
  • 1/2/3/4/5 (one is cr#p and 5 is perfect)
  • or some other type of rating

All pics with low rating (is meant as low quality, picture too small to read anything, blurred - not sharp enough, bad light exposure - where brass looks like silver and gold like nickel, and so on...) would automatically be added in community tasks, as proposed here: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic87204.html

I really like this suggestion. :)

It's been a long time since this topic had been discussed, 3 to 4 years, on any forum.
It suggests that some images would be categories 1, 2 or 3 :(

We do need this feature a lot!

who rate?
where and to whom to report it?
which circuit ?

Hi

Rating can be done by anyone.
Define what is the trigger for public request for better picture (1) ratio between good/bad pics or (2) simply "bad ratings" > "good ratings") or (3) some other calculation.
If condition is met, Numista Robot initiates the public request.
Is it also wise to lock the rating business when pictures are very good (acceptable) and are made from Numista users.

System should not delete pictures where no other coin pictures will be found because of the scarcity of a coin.
Also even if there are 5 or so owners of a coin will not mean that someone else will add his or her pictures

How about anyone can upload a photo of the coin, and the one with the most likes gets used.

Basically it's a good idea, but how would it work in reality? If the referee accepts a request of change pictures, the other one will be deleted. But you mean that it just will be added to the page and then we'll have a slideshow with 10 pictures? Then there's a chance the obverse and reverse pictures are not from the same person, which might look weird. In general I like the idea though.
To fill this idea out further, each coin page would have a gallery of user submitted photos. Only the most popular photo would be selected as the representative image for that coin. If a more popular image came along later, it would replace the earlier photo, which would simply move back to the gallery.

While I see the idea, Xavier already rejected multiple photos idea, basically because the server is not infinitely inflatable.

Every other hobby site I use, be it books or music or gaming, accepts multiple photos or videos per item. Of course, those sites are usually American, not French, and probably have a different relationship with advertising in order to fund larger servers.

I enjoy Numista's minimal adverts, but not if it's seriously holding back new capabilities.
