Recently I added a new coin to the Numista catalog (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces183407.html), and at the time it is in the Hunnic Empire section because I had no idea where it could belong. I am aware that the Sogdians in Semirechye weren't Huns, but I don't think this khaganate is an Islamic or Mongol state, either, and I just supposed it was close enough.
Anyway, could the Turgesh Khaganate exist as an individual nation in the country list? Or, if not, as a subsection of some country?
Well, I believe so – though I don’t know them or the surrounding history well enough to be sure of that; I can’t even find much info on this King Vahshutava/Wahshutawa outside numismatic context. But anyway I think the Türgesh Khaganate was a separate tribe/nation from the Göktürks (but unlike the Khazars not Islamic) and a new country would be nice!
Oh, I sort of assumed they were Muslims because of their imitative dirhams...but it makes sense now! I think one of these imitations mentioned Moses as the prophet instead of Muhammad?
The current dumping place for other Sogdian coins on Numista seems to be Principality of Chaghaniyan, but I'm not sure if the Semirechye issues would come under the same category.
(It does not appear that Chaghaniyan, or any of the other Sogdians, were Islamic [in some cases this is chronologically impossible], and offhand I can't think of a reason to lump Bukhara and Chach together either; we might need a separate "Sogdian states" [or similar] category, probably in the Ancients tab.)
