It doesn't look like gold to me.
Agree. Looks like copper
Thanks guys I'm still learning so any help and advice is gratefully welcomed I was thrown in at the deep end thanks to my dogs I lowered the garden 4 ft when I moved in here 15 years ago then a vole decided to nest and dogs have spend all summer trying to dig up this poor mumma voles nest they obviously struck some wealthy Roman's stash and I had no option but to pick them up they where chewing up my lawnmower which I had to replace in the end as I couldn't always see them all, they just look like chocolate buttons to me. The lower the dogs have dug down the older the coins have got I have in the region of around 400-500 coins here. I'm sick at the thought of how many I must have dug up and not even realised about when I lowered the garden 4 ft 15 yrs ago lol. I've researched my area right at the top of the west hill in hastings east Sussex and it seems that where I live has always been a settlement or living grounds for centuries throughout time, Celtic, bryzantine era, dark age, Roman, viking, medieval, 1066. Right here where I live and my house is. Im guessing from what I've read so far that the east hill was the main battle ground as it has the sheer cliff edge directly down on to the beach and has a clear protected view for defending under attack and here on the west hill is a gradual slop up from the beach so my theory is that the wealthy would have lived or settled at the very top of the west hill where i am and all the protecting soldiers would have lived/settled under the wealthy on the slope going down to the beach to protect the wealthy at the top where I am. So any help and information is appreciated right now as it's still a learning curve for me here. Thanks guys xx
