Hello Friends, few days back I was astonished to get a fake 5 rupees coin in change from a shop, till now I thought only in UK fake 2 pounds coins were circulated, at first I didn't recognized it as its a new 2017 coin ,but with a close look I recognized its fake and when I told the shop keeper, he replied he never knewed about fake coins and for general public its impossible to make it out its fake ,the worst thing is that its made of MS (mild steel)which has very short shining life and get rusted in very short period of time .. it will eventually corrode after passing few hands ,if you too got any fake coin in you country kindly share it .

The coin at left is fake 5 rupees coin.

Sir ,kindly don't see it as an euro exchange point of view, here for an average Indian 5 rupees is not a very small value its same as what you value 5 euro in your country .just think about the poor guy who will receive this coin at last only to know its worthless.....

I did find a Rs5 2008 fake coin in circulation too when I used to live in Bombay. I’ll post a pic later tonight when I get back home
The face of the lion ashoka loola like an owl..

i got a welsh £1 dared 1997 (instead of 1995) when i were in london ages ago..since i couldn't match the design with the date, i finally asked on a coin forum, hoping it would be rare and valuable (lol!)..turned out it was a fake..

i also have a £1 scottish lion dated 1997, and not 1994..i suspect it's a fake to, but haven't confirmed it..

I don't think so, you pay 700 rupees for a standard restaurant in Mumbai, so 5 rupees should not represent a so high value in India.
We might investigate the possibility of a game token instead of a fake, cause it doesn't get the same color.

this is quite the misconception many Indians have on the value of a dollar/euro in their home countries. You can have a sandwich with a coke for 5€. You certainly can’t have that in India for Rs5. However, because of low standard of living, a good ratio is 1:4. So with Rs20, you could possibly have a sandwich and a coke. Though that’s hard in Bombay these days. Still, Rs5 has value to buy certain things like a one way train ticket. But the way things are, even the expected Rs20 coin is probably not enough, will have to move to a Rs25 in the next 3 yrs and probably a Rs50 in the next 5yrs

No it won’t be a game token. It’s simply a counterfeit made to deceive people. It’s coming either from local mafia in some notorious areas of Uttar Pradesh or from Nepal

Here’s mine. Apart from the obvious cast look of the coin, if you look closely you will see that there are small mistakes. Besides that, it weighs much less than the real 5Rs coin

left is real coin; right is fake
