I collect a lot of merchant tokens from various countries, but mostly the United States and Canada. I was wondering it there would be a way to have the world map display the number of tokens you have from a country? I was imaging when you hover over a country it would display:

Canada: 342 coins
Canadian provinces: 17 coins
Newfoundland: 21 coins
* Tokens *: 50 coins

I know a number of people on the site don't like the tokens, and if you are thinking of Chuck-e-Cheeses tokens I understand. Maybe if it was an option on your profile to count tokens on the world map. That way if you want it you can enable it, and if you don't you can ignore it.
That would be interesting.
Many people do not like tokens? It doesn't seem to matter anymore, as tokens and exonumia occupy almost a third of the entire catalog.
I like the idea as about 10-15% of my collection are tokens and medals. I often think it would be great to see a similar break down to coins as to what countries I have tokens from. The US and Germany being my two largest, but that is the same with coins. I also agree with Cyrillius in that with the number of tokens and medals we have listed in the catalog they are clearly of interest to a sizable number of the active Numista users.
Looking at my numbers about 10 - 15 % of my collection is also tokens. I suspect that there are a number of collectors also in a similar position, because as you said, about 1/3 of the catalog is tokens.

What I meant by people not liking tokens, I have been on numista long enough to remember token-gate where most of the tokens were deleted by a catalog admin. I also used to have to look at my numbers because the number of items I had in the catalog would fluctuate because they would sometimes be randomly deleted. Disheartening when I went to the trouble of taking a picture and fill out the information for an item.

It seems like we have stabilized, the collection of tokens seems to be on par with coins in the community. We have standards for entering items, consistent naming conventions that help people find objects, references to printed catalogs, and an over all quality of entries that we did not have when token-gate occurred.

With the increase in quality of entries I wondering if it was time to ask if meshing in that section of the catalog into world map was anything people would find appealing.
Sadly, current way of things does not allow you to see number of tokens from particular country, so if there was a map place for them, it would show all your tokens and exonumia there, without any divisions.

Hello,

I fully agree with the suggestion.

In fact tokens and exonumias are already sorted by country. Hence there is a country field for those in the database. It should be be feasible to give it the same status as the equivalent field of coins to be able to add them (optionaly) to the map.

Trouble is that tokens used to be treated as a country in the old days (yesterday :D).

This is not entirely true, while they are sorted by country, it was done using currency field. Actual country field in database is same for every one of them (Tokens/Exonumia respectively).

Hello all,

I'm visiting this forum right now because I was thinking of exactly the same thing, that we should have a way to show tokens and exonumia on the map. My proposal, however, would be much simpler even if not perfect. I was thinking of two squares, each about the size of Libya and placed to the left of Chile. In this way, at least, you would see how many tokens you have, even if not what country they belong to.

In my case, with 42 tokens and 0 exonumia, it would look like this:

₱o$₮ag€ $₮am₱$ a₹€ mo₹€ £€₲i₮ima₮€ a$ a ƒo₹m oƒ ¢u₹₹€nc¥ ₮ha₦ ₮h€ €₦₮i₹€ "¢oi₦" ₱₹odu¢₮io₦ oƒ ₦au₹u o₹ ₦iu€. ••• £€$ ₮im฿₹€$-₱o$₮€ $o₦₮ ₱£u$ £é₲i₮im€$ €₦ ₮a₦t qu'o฿j€₮$ mo₦é₮ai₹€$ qu€ £a ₱₹odu¢₮io₦ €₦₮iè₹€ d€ «mo₦₦ai€$» d€ ₦au₹u ou d€ ₦iu€.
Hi

Maybe a second line (dashboard) for tokens could be set up, just to cool down some passions...
