US large cent coronet/matron error coin?

Hello Numista members! Have another interesting coin that I happened to purchase from a random box of WWII era coins. This one appears to be a large cent coronet (link above) based on reverse; however the obverse w/ liberty and date is completely missing - it appears as a smooth face - but coin otherwise appears original copper coin based on box of other coins it came from. Could this be a [planchet] error coin from 1837-1839?  Thanks for any and all insight.

Have you tried weighing it, I'm guessing that the weight might be under as in the past people used to smooth down one side of a coin and engrave their own design onto it.

yes you can see the border on flatened side and those kind of look like file marks maybe it was real worn and someone was intending on making a hobo nickel out of it

Well that makes sense, now that I look carefully at the coin; no I haven't weighed it yet - still trying to figure out the best scale to purchase to weigh my coins .....can't do at the 0.1 gram level (yet). But thanks for the insight...very helpful.

  That to me is a nice page of medals, and I already have a lot of them, and saw four that I do not have yet. So those two pages are just part of the site, and it looks nice, with good artistry - I guess one cents can be changed as easily as nickels.
