Need Help With ID - 1780 Austrian Coin [solved]

4 posts
Hello

I recently found this coin at an antique shop and thought I hit the jackpot by finding it, but doing some research showed that it could be a fake. I'm very new to collecting and I don't have the knowledge (yet) to identify it myself.

The coin is from 1780, the date shown

It could be an Austrian thaler?

It's pretty heavy and should be mostly silver.

It looks worn enough to be the real thing, but I'm just not sure...

Any help would be appreciated :)
MT Thaler 1780 X, restrike. S.F. obverse signature, regular brooche, reverse cross with one dot, some of the details have been worn off but if I'm not missing something this is the most common variant struck from 1853 and still being struck today. Judging from the wear on it it's struck decades ago but still, it's the most common variant so it doesn't have any extra value. Price should be around 20$.

It looks real to me, size should be 41mm, weight 28g. I suggest taking a look at: http://www.theresia.name/en/index.html for more information on the coin. :)
