This item has resisted my efforts too. I think it may be Greek Imperial (Roman Provincial). All ideas welcome.

Dia.- 25mm

W.- 7.85 grams

Metal- copper or bronze

Obv: COL AVG ANTONIN

REV: COL ALEXAND AVG

Search Bellinger A313 on this Wildwinds page. It's quite similar, though not identical. Or else two coins down.

Thank you Camerinvs for the link. Prompted by your finding of an Alexandria Troas, I re-examined my coin and decided to look for an alexandria Troas under Caracalla instead of Elagabalus as I recalled that they both went under the name Antoninvs.

When I looked at my coin again, I came to the conclusion that the inscription read AV MAV ANTONINVS on the obverse and COL ALE XAND AVG on the reverse.

If you look at http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/ric/caracalla/i.html and scroll down to Alexandria Troas BMC 84, you find a coin with the correct obverse and reverse inscriptions but with the wrong reverse design and personification. It seems to me that my coin is a variant of Caracalla - BMC 84 with a reverse personification very similar to that of the Elagabalvs Bellinger A313. Comments and opinions most welcome...
At least we have the right city. You could try to find it on the RPC website. But it is work in progress; I'm not sure whether the Severan period (i.e. the dynasty founded by Septimius Severus) has been entered into the database for Alexandria Troas.

I followed the link and the RPC site is still quite chaotic, but, they seem to be convinced that several more volumes of RPC will soon be online...if this proves true, perhaps I will be able to fully attribute this coin. Thanks again Camerinvs for your ideas!
I believe after considerable effort that I have found a match to this piece. The following link to a coin in the Bibliotheque Nationale de France seems to be the closest match to the subject coin: https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8505964w

Below, find a digital image of the BnF coin. The coin is an Alexandria Troas of Caracalla and exhibits the correct obverse device of bust right laureate and cuirassed. It contains the inscription-AV MAV ANTONIN. The reverse device is the correct---statue of Apollo Sminthens on platform, arm extended holding Patera above an unlit tripod altar. Note the left leg of the altar at slight downward angle to the right while the other legs are vertical. The inscription is COL ALE XAND AVG which also appears to be correct. It is regrettable that the BnF coin is quite damaged. This does leave room for some doubt. Comments, opinions...

I think we have a match. What else could it be except for minor die differences? I wouldn't be surprised if one or both dies were the same on both coins, but it's difficult to say because of the differences in corrosion.

The only major difference is that yours seems to be ↑↑ while the BnF one is ↑↓, but the Ancients were much less concerned than us by die orientation.

Thanks Camerinvs...I think we can call this one solved. Should anything turn up in the later volumes of RPC, i'll update...
