It appears to be some sort of commercial Token and since it has no inscriptions and the only clues are UK and some Maritime venture, the only way to attribute it is for someone to recognize it from some previous experience with it.
Thank you kalossaxo for your input. The link takes us to the piece as listed on Numista, but, the listing tells us nothing specific about the piece. It seems the piece continues to resist complete attribution.
I remember seeing somewhere that some manufacturers of amusement machine
tokens make customised versions of their existing tokens. It may be
that JPM made this 6p token with a ship reverse for a customer ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133161613754
and I made an animation to see if the 6p matches ...
It certainly appears that JPM is the maker of the ship token...the match for the 6p is exact. I used the link and went to their site but there does not appear to be a way to use their email logo to get in touch with them to make an inquiry. Am I missing something?...please advise.
It has been 9 days since I sent a request to JPM asking for what purpose the 'ship token was produced. No reply has been forthcoming. Perhaps they have little interest in public relations. I did mention in the email, that I was interested in the cost to a buyer for 1000 such tokens as an inducement in getting a response (or did I overstep the bounds of propriety?). In any event no response has yet been received. Should something turn up in the future, I will advise.
