Inherited murdered "pin" coins- Help?

6 posts
I recently inherited three coins that some evil person made into push pins, and I don't know what to do to them. I would like to rescue them if possible, but I wouldn't even know where to begin or if it can be done. At the very least I would like to not have them poking through my binder and stabbing me all the time anymore.
Can anyone help me?

These are the coins:
Gold, 2.5 Mexican Peso marked as minted in 1945:

One of these marked as minted in 1819 (this is going to sound terrible, but I honestly can't tell which one):

And a Roman coin that I have a feeling is a lost cause. It looks like it was made with some kind of epoxy, and I can't even see the reverse in order to try to identify it properly.
Were the pins put on the coin with metal or glue?

Yes. It depends on what they used to adhere the pins to the coins. If it is some type of epoxy or glue, soaking the coins in a acetone bath (nail polish remover) for some time will not harm the coin and MAY dissolve the adhesive. If it was soldered, an electric solder iron MAY release the solder but also may damage the coin. The latter method is risky but the coins have already been altered and may be worth the risk.
Thank you so much for your help! I have been completely at a loss as to what to do with these for some time.
The 2.5 peso is soldered for sure.
I the 1810 coin has a shine on it that makes me think that it was glued, and if the acetone is safe, I'm going to give it a go.
As for the Roman coin... If it's for sure safe to soak it, I guess I will give it a try. I'm not entirely sure what they did to the poor thing.
Sorry for the terrible image quality. It was the best I could get out of my pitiful webcam.

Please let us know the outcome. Good luck.
There is another option, what I'm about to suggest may seem a little radical, so bare with me. Why not invest in a cork notice board, put it on your wall and use the "murdered coins" to hold up notes etc. Don't let their deaths be in vein. If you need more pins you could murder a few more coins to go with them, pick some which are modern or have a side which is damaged.

Just a thought...
