I bought some notes a few years ago (Irish banknotes), and rather than keep them tucked away safely, I wanted to be able to display them.
I have 10 notes that I wanted to display in a frame, but it’s turned out to be more complicated than I thought.
I don’t want to use those sleeves – they look pretty bad – but I appreciate that’s a good way of keeping them safe (the notes cost a bit so I definitely don’t want to damage them).
I had thought that if I had a sheet of Perspex in front and behind the notes, then the pressure between the Perspex sheets would keep them in position, but they just slide down.
My new idea was that I could put a rectangle of silicone rubber sheet behind each note, and this would add friction, but would be hidden – however I’m not sure if the silicone rubber would damage the note ( I was looking at sheets of “WHITE SILICONE RUBBER” on ebay).
Anyway – I thought this would be something that collectors would have a million good solutions for – but after searching the internet I just can’t find anything that looks good.
Any ideas?
You could try finding the clear plastic corner tabs for mounting photographs into frames. They have a little adhesive on the back and would be barely noticeable on the 4 corners in the front. Try your local photography supply store.
Also if there is sunlight in the room you should get glass that blocks UV light as the notes will fade from sunlight exposure.
The notes are advisable to seal them to prevent yellowing. And advise by blue-m to get those glass that blocks uv light.
If I were you, I would buy the frame with the uv light protected glass and seal the notes. Then I would buy a thin cardboard, trace the sealed note edges and cut the shape. Print some information, stick below the note slot and frame up nicely. Because the notes are sealed, the chemical from the cardboard that release over time will have no impact. Uv glass gives a coat of uv light protection. Plus the cardboard, you can customizer to what background you want or like.
