Another coin that I haven't been able to pinpoint. I thought it might be one of the german states but couldn't find it. One side may have crossed keys but I couldn't find it in Regensburg. The inscription around the cross (the obverse?) seems to include the name Paulus.

Thanks Zac. I should have picked up on the religious angle - cross, crossed keys, -Paulus etc The first example is the closest, except I'm pretty sure mine isn't silver, - it's too brown. But it's obviously from the same issuer.
Thank you Petrus. It is a nice coin although battered. It was in a box that had indian coins, a Kushan coin, several roman and so on, a rummagers heaven.

The coin is listed in Eklund - The Copper Coinage of the Papal States #485 as copper. In Neumann II #15334 it is listed as copper.
The city on the coin, CAR, is Carpentras, 12 miles NE of Avignon. There are similar coins with AVEN from Avignon.
In Berman - Papal Coins #1522 from AVEN is listed as AE, or very base billon.
