Trying to send a coin from US to Australia. Was told there is a 15$ fee! Any ideas? What do people think would happen if I just put a coin in a padded envelope and mailed it as a letter?
Health problems have interfered but I am back!
A am going to start trading. Primary goals, countries, types, beauty, history. Silver trades for silver.
It depends of the value of the coin!
Cents are money too!
This is how I sent the pack to you few hours earlier-padded envelope, coins packed tight between carboard, and sending as letter.
Worked with no problem for over 100 swaps...and not having any troubles with the post officers:)

possible import fee or customs
It depends on the coin and how you send it. If the coin can discreetly fit in an envelope (between cardboard) and sent as a letter it is much more economical. If sent as a package and it is considered "merchandise" it is much more expensive and you must fill out a customs form. Unless it is a very large and thick coin, you should be able to put it in an envelope without drawing attention and additional costs as long as the envelope, cardboard and coin does not exceed 1/4 thick inch or otherwise it wont get through the automatic sorting machine. Good luck.

I totally agree. I would also use your own stamps and drop the letter in a box. It is best to avoid the counter clerks from handling anything you mail. Once mail gets past the counter clerks or bypasses them it seems that anything will get mailed. The actual mail handlers don't seem to care about all the regulations or if there is even the correct amount of postage.
