So I decided not to buy coins for a while and improve finances for a new car instead, but now like addicts often do I've relapsed and bought so many....
Not really a relapse, I was going to buy and sell through bulk lots for a year at a time and see how many free coins I could collect, I did that last year and picked up around $2,000 worth for free. Bt recently I decided to start a collection to keep, although its a very narrow collection focus. I'm just collecting the New Zealand trade tokens that were used as official currency in the mid to late 1800s. I've got about 10 of them so far.
When I left the USA for Thailand I sold all my coins except Thailand. I was going to really focus on my banknote collection and just Thai coins. Now I'm relapsing into having a world wide modern coin collection again. In my position though it's very easy to get the left over coins from others travels.
Hi
That's right, it is, mild addiction. It's for everyone at a different stage, developed and create ecstasy in the short term getting a desired coin medal or collection. When I reach it, the enthusiasm goes down and one waits for another impulse.
I have now reached a milestone of 10K to the coins. Modern coins have stopped enjoying me, I want to profile into the Middle Ages and enjoy history. I am doing shopping at auctions- I'm doing it, i just have a small pocket money for it. I want to sell and I can't even get one more coin out of it-I just can't do it and I can't.
Maybe the first pile will go abroad.
But mainly I want to enjoy it and make myself happy,, life is short and it is up to us to enjoy it..

My local monthly coin show is this weekend and I am struggling mentally, trying to convince myself not to go and spend money I don't have. So yeah, it's an addiction for me too.
Coin buying has taken a back seat for a while.
Our daughter is getting married in September, but instead of it being a local even in South West England, it is in Tuscany.
Much organizing and much money to spend. Trying to keep swapping, but no buying
It's an addiction for sure.
Every weekend is a battle?Finances atrocious BUT can't stay away from great coin collection, looking for eye appeal/ at reasonable premium WIN?
But always a bright side as then am forced to do Ramadan, never mind cars/ holidays
Good hunting to all ?
Same problem here, like 3 or 4 months ago i made the decision to stop buying and try swaping... since then, if i am not wrong and probably i am not, i posted montly in every "additions to your collection" thread because i bought coins and not swaped them?
Se queres ca muller che queira, ten diñeiro na carteira
As I'm collector of modern coins, it is easy to buy coins without "spending" any money. I may buy silver commems at a silver price (it's called investing ?) or face value (=it is like putting money to the bank ☺). So.... no problems here ?
It's different. But honestly the junk isnt all Pobjoy. And all the Calpe House issues were Pobjoy and circulated. The Hercules 2 pounds were sold for 11 or 12 pounds...cheaper than most british issues...and not sure if you were aware that the breast cancer 2 pound isnt a Pobjoy issue. I think the referendum designs circulated they are Pobjoy. Not even sure who is making the half crown and crowns tho...I'm thinking Tower is. Most of Pobjoy is still denomination and metals that circulate. This set of Hercs is something else. But in all honesty, I think the RCM and Canadian RM are the kings of crazy coinage anymore...

yes all pobjoy, my hand is still very much in with Gibraltar. The coinage quality has plummeted in my opinion since they took over (again)
the Hercules thing is a gimmick although I do understand why collectors would want them, I just never clicked with NCLT.
yes breast cancer one was a decent coin but ridiculous values ! They still have a way to go to catch the RCM of course but looks like pobjoy are doing their hardest to manage that !
