2 islamic silver coins

8 posts
Hello, I have two silver coins, which I can't identify.

First one is a thin Dirhem, weight 2.92 g

Second one is a small arab or indian coin, weight 1.15 g

Best Regards,
Michael
Not an expert but you piqued my curiosity and here is what I found so far for the first one. Abbasid Caliphate of the greater middle east and your coin is similar to these.

Thank you, took me to the right path, I think this one https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces52524.html looks even more similar as there is also a 3-line-inscription on the back side.

Some ideas about the second one? Maybe an Indian state or something like that?
Your welcome but I have no idea about the second one. I looked at the coin you found ( MWI# 135) too but there were a few differences and I am not convinced it is the same although it seems nearest to your coin.
Tour coin was minted at بالمحمدية Al-Muhammadiya (Hadath), as this following coin with the same mint .

I bet there is an error in the Numista sheet where the coin doesn't seem to have been minted at Al-Muhammadiya (Hadath).

I think it might have been minted in Tabaristan (Iran) like this following coin:

The only thing I can read on the second one is "792", typed it in and found only this one https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces107074.html looks a bit alike.

I agree with Frenchlover

The cataloged coin however, is not an error, but more than one Mint has been added to the cataloging. I will later modify this page.
You can find here a list and a better explanation for al-Rashid's Mints:

There are so many versions that I have not found on the web the same as the picture of the Numista sheet!
Compared to this treasure hunt, the identification of Roman coins is a piece of cake :D
