German Medal ID [solved]

6 posts
Hi All,

Can anyone please help me identify this medal? I had the text roughly translated on google to:

(des fleisses seegen der arbeit lohn belohnnung und ermunterung)
of the labor lake of work pay
Reward and encouragement

Any idea what this is for?

30.5mm
10gr

Thanks,
Aaron

G. Loos was the mintmaster at the Berlin mint from 1806-1812. He then established his own mint (1812-1843) and employed many of the best German engravers of the time to make medals etc. So many were made that the Biographical Dictionary of Medallists (III p466-470) limits their listing to the best known or more important ones, and that list is over three pages long.
Another translation of the obverse: The diligent see work pay. This would be a medal given to reward good work.
Thanks so much for that info!
