Under the Sport category can we please have a new Tag for "Football"?

We already have one for Rugby and Soccer.

In most of the world Soccer is known as Football anyway.

Also Football will cover just about any sport that kicks a ball whether it is Soccer, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Australian Football (AFL), Gaelic Football or American Football.

Can we all agree that the tag Soccer should be changed to Football?

Please, please, please!

Or How about Football with sub categories for all the types of Football as I mentioned in the original post?

It would be better to have these seperated.

In a coin Tag I think people would want American Football, Rugby and Foorball (Soccer) seperated.

All played with some kind of ball but entirely different sports.

There are two different kinds of Rugby just so you all know.

The boring one enjoyed by upper class toffs (Doctors , Dentists, Lawyers, Accountants etc) - Rugby Union (15 players per side) :|
And the fast exciting skilful one enjoyed by everyone who has ever watched it - Rugby League (13 players per side)

But I suppose I could live with just the one tag - Rugby - To cover them both. ;)

Cheers - mike

Thanks mike,

I was not aware of that. We have some American Football in Germany but Rugby is rather unknown here.

Status changed to Rejected (pejounet, 7 Apr 2022, 22:51)
Rejected (at least for now).

Somewhat related, tags "Other sport" and "Famous sportsperson" have been added.

Since the new feature is up and running, it is finding errors on Football (American Football) for USA Exonumia. Can this now be reconsidered?

Referee for Exonumia from United States

We have the

1. European football, also known as soccer in the States. Round ball.

2. The US football, also known as football in the states, but as American football in Europe. Oval ball.

3. The Australian rules football, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football, which is a mishmash of rugby and US football. Oval ball, not known in Europe at all.

Enjoy defining them numista wise….🤣

AFL (Aussie Rules) is nothing like American football at all. It is actually very similar to Gaelic Football (Irish), except it is played on a large oval field instead of a rectangular one. These large oval fields are used for Cricket in the summer. The MCG is a very good example. (Melbourne Cricket Ground) which hosts 100,000 people for the AFL Grand Final in September.

In AFL you also get a point for missing the main goals. Either side of the main goals gives you 1 point (called a Behind). Kicking through the main goal gives you 6 points (a Goal).

There is actually a cross code International Rules match played between the Aussies and the Irish. The Gaelic Football uses a round ball on a rectangular field, the Australians use an oval ball on the oval, field. So a compromise is the Aussies play with the round one on the rectangular field.

Then there is Rugby League and Rugby Union which I mentioned in an above post. They are very different variations of Rugby. American Football is loosely based on that.

End of the day they are all Football. We still need tags  like this.

Football

Soccer

Rugby League

Rugby Union

Australian Rules

American Football

Gaelic Football

Just saw the errors today, but this is not new to USA Exonumia. Canada and Australia seem to suffer from the same thing as well. Brismike is correct, diversification of the football tag feels like a practical solution to this problem. Less headaches for everyone.
