Yes, the market makes the prices not some books and sites.
But actually not ebay is the real source, i guess local selling sites are the most real...the value is relative according to your location. Just saying :8D
I would tend to agree with Fire Blade5 and as someone a good deal wiser than me used to say, "The value of a coin is measured by how much someone is prepared to pay for it". Consequently, if you search on eBay and click on 'completed listings' then you can see at a glance exactly what has sold and for how much (what is also interesting to see is the great many more listings that did not sell!)
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
This is something I found recently while searching for a  unlisted French 1941 10 Centimes variety. It's pretty comprehensive and there is a seperate category for Ancients.

Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Hi would just like to pass comment on value as I bought a large quantity (40+kg) of post 1947 english coins (ebay) few month ago, not only was there a reasonable amount of pre 1947 silver (added to my collection) & a little pre 1920's, but there was also over £250 of bankable coinage.
My nearest local dealers website.
