I cannot tell the difference between the two types below:

KM# 816a --https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces21941.html
KM# 829 - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces4928.html

Can someone help me differentiate them?
It's all around the King's portrait and the obverse legend. It's right that there could be a comment on the page but it is given in the title/description and you will probably find a hatful of helpful posts if you search the forum for 'modified effigy'.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

The second type GV shilling should have two dots after the DEI on the obverse side, however, it appears the wrong obverse has been used for the photo as no dots are apparent.

No - as DEI is not an abbreviation, whereas GRA is, for example.
I did see that on one obverse the I in DEI points between the edge teeth,
and on the other it points at a tooth. May be others ways to differentiate.

DEI = Dei
GRA: = Gratia
BRITT: = Brittaniarum
OMN: = Omnium
REX = Rex

= by the Grace of God, King of all the Britons

So DEI REX are not abbreviations, and GRA BRITT OMN are.
Same applies to >

6 Pence ~ https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces21938.html
1/2 Crown ~ https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces21964.html

Sorry ZacUK, but there are two dots after DEI on this particular year for this coin on the Numista page,
https://en.Numista.com/catalogue/places4928.html. KM#829. See left side of page for details.

Sorry croffer - that page description is wrong and I earlier made a request to change it.
There is clearly no : after DEI as the picture shows, on that coin and the 3 others in my links above. Also your link does not work.

There would never be a : after DEI anyway as it is not an abbreviation.
I would like to see a picture of a coin that does have it. :)

I stand corrected, my apologies.

Cool, no problem! :)

Even I couldn’t make out the difference, only after going through the comments, I realised that there are quite a few.. thanks for sharing the information..
Hi,

here is my documentation of the difference between the two effigies, the difference is quite clear, once you've found it0:)

Hey Ole,

Thanks for your visual aid, is that the only difference between the two 1926 types?

I was expecting a slight difference in the portraits, I'm guessing there are a few but looking at the coins' denticles is easier to tell them apart.
Hi,

there might be more, but the denticle difference is outstanding, isn't it?
