What 9 letter word, in the English language, is able to form a new word, every time a letter is removed.
The remaining letters stay in the same order throughout this puzzle.
Example is below

SPINE
PINE
PIN
IN
I

Please, no cheating or asking Google. Just have a think and stir up the old grey matter.

Haha! It reminds me of the 'growing rhymes' (groeirijm) coined by the Dutch singer Drs P. The rhyming word will grow with a letter each line. And the rhyme has to be witty. One of his examples (g and ch sound alike in Dutch):

Een oude schipper staart voor zich uit / met een hartverscheurend: "Oef"
Hij gaat langzaam te gronde in zijn kajuit / of zoals hij het noemt: "de roef"
Steeds denkt hij weer aan zijn jonge bruid / en de dag dat hij haar begroef
Nadat zij, op zoek naar scheepsbeschuit / beland was in de schroef...

An old skipper is staring ahead / uttering a heartbreaking: "Whew"
He slowly languishes in his cabin / or as he calls it: the deckhouse
He constantly thinks of his young bride / and the day he buried her
After she, in search of pilot bread / got tangled in the propeller...

But I can't solve your puzzle as my native tongue is not English.
memorized

memorie

memo
mem
me
m

The 9 letter word is English ; we didn't precise the other ones should be too :P
@Cyncos

Did not know "mem" was a word in English!
'm' on its own is not a word. Struggled to understand other words as well.

So we know this word starts with "a" or "i"?

I'm guessing text messaging slang words r not going 2 be valid either! :O
Cass,

The word may not start with 'a' or 'i', but obviously has to be part of the word, as those are the only two letters that are a word, even as a single letter.

I just checked this one and "m" is apparently a pronoun in the Mandinka language, so it's not just a letter or an abbreviation in this case :wiz:
Cynos,
So it may be, but I stated in the English language, so it does not count.

Could we use our brain to create a programm that uses a bruteforce method on an english dictionary ?
I'm like ArnoV ; English is not my mother tongue so it's kinda hard to figure out those words if I don't know some them :O
Cynos,
I understand your problem with the language barrier, but, I can only give quiz questions in English, as I do not speak any other.
It seems it is getting the grey matter moving, so I will leave it until someone requests the answer.

Me as well.

I'm always up to participate in a fun forum game! :`
I was lucky, as I remembered from a few years back that STRING had 6 letters that could be reduced to 1, so I had a good start, and went longer.
My daughter set me this one and was surprised when I answered it in under 5 minutes.
I set her a real beauty.
English word with 15 letters, none of which are repeated. Use Google if you want. Amazing answer.

Thanks to all who took part.
