Post counts on main forum page same as topic counts [solved]

This is a problem I've had for a while: when I open the main Numista forum page, the visible post counts are the same as the visible topic counts. (The magnitude of the numbers heavily suggests that it's the topic counts that are doubled.)

This happens regardless of whether I am logged in, and also occurs on my smartphone's mobile browser.

I'm fairly sure that this is a bug and not intended behaviour. If so: any ideas what is going on?
(Also, does anyone else see the same thing, or is it just me?)

It appears the French side forum has it too.

For example the MPCC section has 17 pages of 50 per page and the 18th page has 10 so
the total = 860 then I guess 'Forum policy' is not counted, so Topics is correct at 859 then
it is Posts (Messages) that is wrong.
