Any suggestions for a starter?

Hello Numista,(8
Can someone suggest me some ways to acquire more and more coins other than buying them in bulk?
Thanks in advance.
You could reach out to family, friends, coworkers and other people you know and tell them that you collect coins and that you're looking to expand your collection. You may find someone with some interesting stuff.
I often get the foreign coins from a local shop instead of romanian circulation ones...mostly eurocents and other european common cheap coins...but also got some nice ones like Bahamas,Paraguay, and even Nepal :)

Best option, doesn't always work, but for many it does, the longer you collect coins the more people will think of you when they have some .

I recommend Advertising that you buy coins. That's how I have gotten some good coins, offer 65-70% of the value and you will be fair. Also be careful of valuable coins, people will try to sell you fakes.

Here in the US we have coin sorting machines that reject anything that does not weigh the correct coin weight, like foreign and silver coins. I have found a few things this way but some guys have found some very nice things! I don't know if any other nation has this?
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
- ask family, friends, and co-workers who go on vacations or have served abroad
- make friends with people who travel a lot for their jobs: pilots at an international airport, sailors/cruise ship staff at major ports, truckers (if you're in Europe), etc
- talk to bank tellers and supermarket cashiers
- garage/estate sales
HoH
Basically everything people have already mentioned above.

But to answer your original question, I'm going to have to ask one of my own:
"Can someone suggest me some ways to acquire more and more coins other than buying them in bulk?"

What coins are you looking for exactly?

If you want currently circulating coins, or coins that recently went out of circulation (e.g. the New Franc), then various places from banks, to relatives'/friends' houses, to flea markets should have literally crates full of those.

If you're looking for slightly more refined coins (silver, pre-1945, exotic countries, etc.) then you can try coin fairs and dealers, who'll usually have a trough full of nice coins; sometimes they'll have sorted their loose coins into "silver/not silver" or by price.

Finally, anything more upper-tier than that, and you'll either have to be really lucky/persistent in your searching, or just take the hit to your purse. 0:)
If you're collecting coins from your country then go to the bank and get rolls of coins and sort through them. You can either sort through them for stuff you want, or fill your swap list with common coins from your country to swap with other members for common coins from their country, or you can just take it back to the bank or spend it.
What? Me Worry
