Youngest coin collector. (No, not me)

On Sunday, we had to visit the house of my great nephew and his wife who are expecting their first born early in September.
It was called a baby shower, but really, just an excuse for a get together.
Presents had to be taken, so, what better gift to buy than the usual babygrow ect than a coin.
So, a Paddington Bear 50pence coin in original cover was bought and given. It was a very much appreciated gift.
I am therefore claiming that my great, great neice/nephew is the youngest collector, even though she/he does not know it yet.
I will update you after birth has taken place.

Well congratulations! (if that's what we say at a birth :O)
Any plans on starting them off on a collection when they get older?
Well, it's starts with 1, then grows, just like the baby will do.
I am sure the parents will buy a few others, but as to whether or not it will take it up as a hobby, no one knows as yet.
I hope to show him/her around my collection when he/she is old enough to enjoy it.
I started collecting when I was 11, so he/she has a bit of a start on me, but, on the other hand, coins were a great deal cheaper then than now.
I think I would continue to buy them for the new born on the odd occasion, just to get reaction from other people first, and my new numismatist colleague later.
We could have great conversations as the parents live only two miles away.

Well, hopefully you'll be planting the seed of a new collector.

I'd personally be more reluctant, since from a more pessimistic PoV, I'd be afraid that they turn out to be an unappreciative person who sells those coins for quick cash, or even worse, spends them for face value. ;(

But good luck nonetheless, and congratulations again!
Cass,
I do not think he/she will sell them for some time, especially as I will be giving them as gifts, and both parents have seen my collection and my devotion to coin collecting.

My Grandfather who lived in San Francisco bought my mother his first child a 1936 proof set. He worked for the newspaper and his route took him past the SF mint . He paid $1.89 which is quite a sum back then considering he bought a home that yr for $2200 (now worth 1.4M) My mother kept it all these years in her jewelry box and recently I told her it was worth $7,000. Coinman lets hope your nephew holds on to those coins for 80 years and he too might have a small fortune . If not he will always have story to tell his children
Paul,
The coin is not for my Great Nephew, but for his unborn son/daughter. As I have said before, he and his wife both know of my passion for collecting coins, so the gift of the Paddington Bear coin, is in sme ways, just a little joke.
I hope that they do enlarge this tiny collection, of one, in the future. I'm talking coins, not kids.

I doubt it'll be worth much in the future but it's a lovely gift and could even be the start of a great collection,
if not it is always nice to have something to remind you of where you came from and the people you love.

P.S.
The Paddington 50p is a nice coin for a young child

Numismatist uk,
Thank you for that lovely comment. I have also bought myself the Paddington Bear coin, so we can compare collections when the baby is old enough to talk.
At the moment, he/she has 1, and I have over 15,000, so discussion may be a bit one sided.

My great great nephew became the youngest numismatist at 6.20am,(UK time), this morning, when he was born to very proud, but tired parents.

AS CUTE AS A BUTTON :O:O:O

Uuuuu mmm gigigigi hwaaaa...Sorry I speak in gibberish when I meet babies/kitten/puppies/people I fancy
He's beautiful. I've always had a soft spot for animals and children. Whenever we go to visit the various grandchildren there's always a lot of elbowing and pushing to see who gets to sit with me. I think it's the beard.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.
