When adding or editing a coin, I automatically do this in English. It would be very easy if the text fields of both English and French could be shown on the same editing page, so I could edit them both at the same time. It would also help to translate between both languages and keep a similar content on both sides of the website.
Now I rarely take the extra time needed to switch to French, when having both fields available at the same time it would hardly be any extra work to translate. For non-French (or French non-English) speakers maybe an extra option to just get edit pages with one language field could be added if too many useless fields would bother them.

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!
Don't we now have auto-translate for certain fields (e.g. metal)?
I get what you mean, two fields on the coinsheet like:
Metal (en):
Métal (fr):
But I think this would be too confusing and the potential to make mistakes in filling out the form, especially by unexperienced contributors, is too great IMO. Best to just have the auto-translate if you ask me.
Autotranslate works for this kind of basic fields, but with the coin description, comments or comments on yearlines you'll need to do manual translations for sure.
Yes, it might be confusing for some, but might encourage bilingual contributers to work on both languages. So maybe then make it standard monoligual and with the option of showing both language fields for those mastering both languages and willing to do the translation while adding/editing a coinsheet.

Yeah, that actually sounds like a good idea! Consider me behind it. Usually I add/edit coin pages by default on the English side, and I'm too tired by the end to repeat the same for the French side.
There's a French user, hernan4950 who always helps out as much as possible for most new pages added in English, and I don't know what I would do without people like that.
