I wrote a macro to import coin info from Numista to Excel

6 posts
Ever since I have known Numista, I always wanted to be able to get information about a coin and directly import it into my Excel sheet, where I store information about my coin collection. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a way to do it. At some point, I have come across a solution, but it didn't work for what I was hoping to do. I was trying to figure out if there would be a way to create an API, but I couldn't get anywhere with it.

For the lack of better, I created an Excel macro which seems to be able to get the job done. It is able to populate my Excel sheet with 12 different pieces of data from a coin record from Numista.

Please excuse me for the shameless blog promotion, but I would like to reference my blog where I have shared this macro and detailed how to use it. This way if the macro gets updated, I only have to update the instructions at one place.
I hope you will find this tool useful.

Here is where you can find the macro:

Nice work. Tried to do this in excel using power query and macros and found it too much effort so I wrote one in python. Actually made a thread about it earlier today in the other sub forum. Wanted to make sure it was not against terms and conditions
Oh, great, what a coincidence, I was not aware of your post. I did check the forum for any API solutions for years, so finally I just decided to write my own macro, then I thought I would share once I have it. I honestly have no idea if it is against therm and conditions, as I haven't seen anything from Numista about it in any of the discussions, pros or cons. I certainly don't try to violate terms, and if it is inappropriate, I will remove the macro.

Hello,
I would like to answer doubts about terms and conditions. There is no issue with this macro or scraping data from Numista for personal use, as long as you keep a reasonable traffic.

I'll check yours out. I think I'd prefer an excel vba solution than my python script. Thanks for the work.

@Xavier thanks for clearing that up.
Thanks for the clarification. The intended use of my macro is obtaining info when adding a new coin to the catalog, so the page is opened once, either manually, or by the macro to get the info. People are encouraged not to use it for anything else, partly, because the macro does not handle large traffic anyway.
