Change checking pays off: a £1 collar variety

4 posts

I've checked scores of pounds over the past year looking for this one variety.
Normally the year lies next to a milled edge. Not on this baby!
You can also see it's not exactly 30° out of whack. Meanwhile, the obverse and reverse line up fine. And as I often find on plated coins the effigy of the Queen has a slight outline of excess material around it.

Cheers,

Congratulations! I had not found any for a while, then last week I got three of
them in change. That brings my total to 13 now ...

Still not found any 2017 of them, as all mine are 2016 dated.

P.S. I am still looking for the 2016/2017 error where the Royal Mint put the 2017 small
numbers around the edge of the reverse, but forgot to change the big date on the obverse.

Something like that image I made just now; apparently only a few examples known -
and good eyesight needed to see those tiny 2017 numbers anyway. 8)
I read about it on here a few months ago, where someone saw the error mentioned
on the internet.
Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
13 - they're more common than I thought then! Good going.

Been looking out for the year error too - no luck yet. Have you noticed the radial scratches in some of them? I'm struggling to think what would create it.

I have one 2016 so far, I haven't seen any 2017 yet either.
