Help!!! Old stamps (pre 1917)

6 posts

I would like someone to tell about these:
(not the top right one, I found out what it is already)

Mauritius 3 penny thing, how much can it be worth?
Porteado/Corteado/Pobteado(?) 10 centavos A recerer/receber (?) correio, what is this stamp?
Quite a bright shilling (?) stamp, probably edward vii. What on earth is it?

(I got these + many others like for example early french, british stamps for under 10€, possible that a old collector has died and the children know nothing about stamps)

Not mauritius, natal
Well, I guess they are rare
I guess you meant the bottom right is Natal.

The top right is (not surprisingly) from Argentina, in the days when cities would issue their own stamps. This is from the 1850s and therefore quite early. In one of the Google pages, someone warns about the many (worthless) reprints of this series. So, you have to make sure it is authentic.

The top left is from Portugal.

As for the bottom left stamp: "shilling" or "schilling"? It looks like Edward VII but I'm not entirely sure it's him.

What you would need is the Scott catalogue, which is for stamps the equivalent of Krause for world coins. Public libraries usually carry the whole set.

The stamp with Edward VII was not mentioned a catalogue I read. <-- while I was writing this I figured out that the picture of the 1sh stamp had wrong colors. Its worth 10€.

I would say the buenos aires one is not a reprint. If it is, it must be a pre-1940s reprint.

Still wondering what is the price of that 4 block of natal stamps, and the portugal one.
The shilling is indeed showing Edward VII (I wondered for a moment whether it was one of his German cousins) and is a British stamp, same or very similar to Scott #138.

The Natal stamp is not worth a lot in used condition, but a block of 4 is going to be more valuable, especially since this one seems to be in excellent condition, with a nice central cancellation (which reads REGISTERED).

The Portuguese tax stamp goes back to the 1920s I think. Here is the whole set at a starting bid of less than US $10. You may want to keep an eye on it to see how high the bidding goes.
