Nauru Coins in Exonumia? [solved]

9 posts
Greetings,
Recently, some of the coins originally belonging to Nauru had the issuer changed to Exonumia. Was there a thread explaining why this was? Didn't the coins belong to Nauru?

I know nothing and please correct me if I am mistaken.

Yes, they are fake. They are unauthorized issues. Check the Bank of Nauru for more details:

Thank you very much, I appreciate the help :wiz:
You, welcome :) I also own this ships and now must search again for this country.
In the beginning of the year I asked Nauru bank about this coins as i can find it in their list. Glad that they response in such way. Its a big thing for collectors to know for sure if theirs coin are or arent legal tender. I wish that all central banks provide such information thanks to that the amount of fake coins will be lower or at least collector wouldn't be buying them.

Hi Damian,

I agree with you that non-legal tender issues should not be included in a country's Numista catalogue, but this is listed in Burkina Faso: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces83558.html

When all the other issues of the same series are located in Fantasy Issues in Exonumia of their country respectively:

The British Museum link you provide as proof that this is not a fantasy issue doesn't actually say anything of the sort, and the fact that all other issues of the series are listed as Exonumia here means I believe it should be moved, and I have sent a modification request. :)

Hi CassTaylor, this thread is about Nauru and not Burkina Faso. If you provide me better source that say this coin is a fantasy i will move there. So far i didn't saw any better source then British Museum, that is why this coin stay under Burkina Faso

Best way would be messaging government/central bank of Burkina Faso directly. That is not an easy task I guess.

Anyway, since all other coins of the set are in the Exonumia currently, I moved it to Exonumia for the time being. We have a policy of not dividing dubious sets. Once this is solved, it will either stay or be moved into its respective countries.

Burkina Faso has no central bank of it's own, like many of the CFA Franc countries it shares a website to represent it's currency here (BCEAO).

Based on what I have seen I don't believe it keeps track of the commemorative CFA Franc coins issued by each of the countries, just circulating CFA Franc coins and banknotes (look at tab "Billets et pièces").
As thread from Burkina Faso shouldn't be here, I start a new one here : https://en.numista.com/forum/topic70815.html#p575573
